Radio Show

From 9 a.m. until noon, I hosted my radio show. I was in charge of the social media accounts (facebook, twitter) to let listeners know what songs were coming up next, as well as within the the next hour. After my radio show, Russell did an interview with Ryan Poignon and Ron Trout. I was honored to be a part of both interviews. The interviews were very informative and I was glad to be a part of them. From 5 p.m.-8 p.m., I recorded a presentation in the Osceola Theater. A corrections officer came to speak to a class, which included some deaf students, and they wanted it filmed so they could have it transcribed for the students who are deaf. The corrections officer was a female and she became the first female executive director in the state of Ohio. She was explaining the changes she has mas made in the prison system in the short amount of time since she was appointed executive director.

For example, one of the changes she has made is she has allowed inmates to get their college degrees while they are in prison so when they are release employees will be more inclined to hire them. Another change is they teach inmates how to cook, so they can provide for their loved when they are released. These are just two examples that were explained during the presentation. The presentation included career fields that the prison system is hiring and some of them included librarians, human resources, and teachers. The presentation ended with a touching tribute to the corrections officers, inmates, and their families as it described each individual situation that the person is going through. The presentation was very insightful and informative.

Board of Counselors

tu-aicuo-ofic-education-partnership.jpg

From 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., I filmed the Board of Counselors meeting in the Osceola Theater. The meeting featured a presentation by Todd Jones, who is the president and general counsel of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio. The presentation was to inform the room about current and potential issues that Tiffin University and Institutions across Ohio have to manage. The first part of the presentation informed the room about the demographics statistics throughout the state. For example, the only city in the state of Ohio that is growing and is projected to grow in in the future is Columbus. Every other city, including Cincinnati and Cleveland will decrease in population.

The presentation described the challenges that universities are having with recruiting students to their schools, as well what universities must do to keep students engaged, so they do not transfer. The issues of sports betting and illegal drugs was discussed throughout the presentation and the impact it will have on athletic teams and students across campus. The presentation ended discussing racial, gender, and social media concerns. Mr. Jones presented several issues that are currently facing campuses not just in Ohio, but across the United States. A well informed presentation and information that can help save lives. Before the presentation, president Schumacher discussed the upgrades of the athletic and academic programs, and more upgrades are planned for the future. President Schumacher presented an award to a student who is involved in student body government and works closely with president Schumacher.

Alderson Broaddus Football Game

tueimeh1100.jpg

Today was a challenging day for me. My day started at 9:30 in the morning. I had to meet Russell at the office to organize the equipment to get ready for the football game between Tiffin and Alderson Broaddus. As we were setting up the equipment the picture for two of the cameras kept cutting out. I could not figure out why until I realized the setting was off, so I had to readjust the setting on the camera. However, the ground camera feed kept shutting off so I had to adjust the wiring on the camera in the hopes that it would solve the issue. The issue was solved momentarily, but the picture kept cutting out. My task for the day was to initially run the computer, and to update the statistics throughout the game for viewers watching online, as well as keeping fans up to date through our social media accounts. However, due to the issues of the cameras, I was asked to go down to the field and run the camera for the rest of the game to make sure we had a clear and consistent picture. After the taking down the equipment and organizing it, and taking it back to the office, I did not get home until 5:p.m. It was a very frustrating day for everyone however, I am glad I experience these kinds of days because I learn that not everything will run smoothly all the time. It was a valuable learning experience for me and something I can use in the future in the internship and my career.

Radio Show

636130998490953023-ThinkstockPhotos-4858

I hosted my radio show this morning. I discussed the performance of the athletics at Tiffin University, as well as the local high schools. I gave a recap of the college football and NFL season and how I believe the results will impact the rest of the season. I previewed the upcoming World Series between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros. I predicted that the Astros would win in 6 games. With the upcoming NBA season beginning this week, I gave my thoughts about how the Warriors can regain the championship and if it might be good for the NBA to have some parity.

After my show was completed, I recorded a couple of commercials. The first commercial I recorded was about the upcoming events that will be taking place this week on campus. The second commercial that I recorded was about the 2019-2020 theatre productions the university will be showing throughout the year, the third commercial that I recorded was about the faculty award recipients for the faculty for Tiffin, and the final commercial I recorded today was a soccer preview against the #10 Lake Erie Storm, which also happens to be the Breast Cancer Awareness Game. The game against Lake Erie will take place on Sunday at 2:30pm at Paradiso Soccer Field.

Today was a productive day and a huge step as I continue to build my profile as a broadcaster, however this is only the beginning. There will be more challenges and lessons ahead as I continue to work my way up to reach my goal of becoming a landing a high-profile position in the radio industry.

Tiffin Football Radio Show

20191213_184825.jpg

I filmed the tiffin dragon football radio show from 8 pm until 8:30 pm at the Wall Street Pub and Grille. Every Wednesday Russ will interview coach Reisert to recap the previous game, as well as look forward to the upcoming game. Sometimes coach will bring a couple of guests on the show as well. This week, the guests were wide receiver Gavin Woods and defensive back Carrington Contee. Both players were extremely humble and laid back. The first thing I noticed is how both men held the door open for an older couple and they always referred to Russ during the interview as Sir. Both were well educated and extremely bright and knew what they want to do when they graduate. It is easy to see why the football team is having so much success on field and that is due to the comrade off the field. After the show was completed, Carrington and Gavin asked if we needed any assistance taking down the equipment. It was a quality interview and one of my favorite parts about working in radio is getting to meet quality people like Carrington and Gavin. Coach Goff built a solid foundation at Tiffin with great people that care about each other. Coach Reisert has continued that trend and seems to be building on the foundation. The present and the future seems to be bright for the football program at Tiffin. I am excited to see what the next few years have in store, as it is going to be exciting. Go Dragons!

Commercials

20191216_102055.jpg

Today I hosted my radio show from 9 am until noon. I previewed the upcoming athletic events with women’s soccer hosting Lake Erie at 1pm on Friday and volleyball hosting Cedarville at 7 pm at the Student Gillmor Center.  I also previewed the upcoming football game on Saturday as Tiffin travels to Lake Erie to take on the Storm at 1 pm. I discussed my thoughts on how the Washington Nationals have taken a 2-0 series lead in the World Series. I share my thoughts concerning the ongoing controversy between the NBA and China. After my show concluded, I edited some of my commercials that I recorded from the previous week, which included about the upcoming events that were taking place on campus, Halloween theme night with the movie Hocus Pocus, the faculty award recipients, and the preview about the upcoming men’s soccer match with Lake Erie on Sunday at 2:30pm.

Russ and I discussed what the plans are for the winter sports schedule and when I might potentially be heading on the road with the men’s and women’s basketball games to stream games to give me more experience, but also give the athletic programs more exposure. Nothing is definitive yet however we are getting close to a final resolution on when and if I will be able to travel with the teams. This upcoming weekend will be huge for Tiffin athletics, so let’s hope it is a productive weekend for the teams and all the teams come out victorious. Go Dragons!

Volleyball Game

3isdful6gswj7fph.jpg

Today I helped set up for the volleyball match against Cedarville at the Gilmor Student Center. The first camera I set up was not working properly, so I had to revert to a backup camera I had no issues with the camera. There was an issue with the headset, as the microphone did not seem to work. We had to go to the backup headset and had no issues. Russell asked me to set up the angle a little differently since it was a different camera. Normally I would use the zoom on the camera throughout the event, but Russell suggested it would be best if I do not mess with it since it is in a different place. The Tiffin Dragons came out victorious as they beat Cedarville 3 sets to 0. Senior Jenna Huffman collected her 1,500 kill for her Tiffin career. The team played inspired and were motivated against a tough opponent. The energy in the gym was amazing, as most of the stands were full and a bunch of other student-athletes came out to support the team. The next home volleyball match will be in November 5th against the Ashland Eagles. The volleyball match lasted for about an hour and a half. After I got home from the game, I gathered notes that I write down during the day of the lessons that I learned and put them in my folder, and I was able to record the upcoming preview about the volleyball match against Ashland. It was another productive day working at WTUD. Go Dragons!

Soccer vs Lake Erie

3kl3zgov16jzd2a3.jpg

I ran the camera for the men’s soccer match against Lake Erie. It was a tough and hard-fought contest, but the dragons came up short as they fell to the storm 1-0. The storm came into the contest as the 7th ranked team in division 2. However, in my opinion that did not look like the 7th rank team in division 2. The field conditions may have played a factor as well as the field was slick from the rain, we received the prior day. Neither team could keep their footing; although some of that may have been due to the women’s game played prior to the men. The Dragons had plenty of opportunities, but just could not capitalize and against a team like Lake Erie, every possession is important. The men have one final home match against the Findlay Oilers on November 5th at 2:30p.m. It should be a great crowd as it will be senior day for the team and Findlay is our biggest rival. The team will want to win for the seniors and head into 2020 on a positive note. It has been a rough season for the soccer team however the team was young, and it was a learning experience for a lot of players. Hopefully the team can learn from their mistakes and have a great offseason to build upon a great 2020 campaign. I am excited to be able to experience a Findlay game, as I have heard the games against the oilers are intense. Go Dragons!

Self-Scouting

20191216_081238.jpg

Today I hosted my radio show where I recapped the weekend results for Tiffin athletics. I also discussed how I felt about the raid that killed the Isis leader and other members of the group. I discussed what impact that might have on President Trump’s legacy in office and I gave my point of view on the topic. I discussed favorite Halloween costume snacks and costumes and how parents need to monitor the kind of snacks their children eat because certain snack may be contaminated. I discussed how I believe the culture shift has changed for trick or treat because it used to be at night however with the instability in society, it is hard for parents to monitor their children without an abduction happening, which is sad today. I also discussed with the weather changing, my ideas for how to stay warm, safe, and healthy, during the winter season, as this time of year will bring colds and the flu throughout the year.

I monitored the social media accounts to let viewers know what songs were coming up next or within the next hour. I got some great feedback from some listeners and even from bands whose songs we play on the station. It is always nice to communicate and get positive reinforcement from everyone. It makes the job well worth it. I watched the men’s soccer game against Lake Erie to see what I could have done better as a cameraman. I also listened to my broadcast from the women’s soccer game against Lake Erie to learn from my mistakes. I have some mistakes I can learn from and must continue to get better. There is no doubt in my mind I will though. Go Dragons!

Radio Show

th.jpg

I hosted my radio show where I talked about a little bit of everything. I discussed the recent struggles with my favorite NFL team the Kansas City Chiefs. I talked about how I thought the Chiefs needed a new head coach in order to take the next step and finally be able to win the super bowl championship. I discussed who I thought who was playing the best football and who I thought the best team in the NFL was. I discussed the early play of the NBA and how I thought the injuries to star players such as Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson have affected the interest of the league. I also discussed a little bit about the free agency of the MLB and where I thought the best fit would be for each player. I discussed how much fun the college football season has been because it has been unpredictable and any of the top teams have a chance to win the national championship this season. I did some editing on a couple soccer games to help Russell out and to give myself a chance to work on my editing skills. I was able to work on some audio for a few commercials and promos that I have been working on for the last couple of days. For example, I did a preview for the upcoming soccer game and football game, so I was able to save those on the computer, while editing any the commercials to make the commercials sound clean.

Radio Show

th (1).jpg

I hosted my radio show where I talked about the upcoming tiffin athletic events. I also talked about some of my favorite music. I discussed my favorite Halloween traditions and some of my best and worst costumes as a kid. For example, when I was eight, I dressed up as a telephone for Halloween. I encouraged anyone listening to submit their favorite Halloween traditions. I also discussed the favorite Halloween candy. I got a few responses that were pretty interesting. For example, one listener sent in that they dressed up as a box of macaroni and cheese and I also received one response where one person dressed up as a three-legged animal. I t was a interesting conversation and one that brought out a different side to people. I also discussed how it was sad that trick or treat was no longer after dark and that because of certain concerns for children, the best times for trick or treating is now over. The children in 2019 will not get to experience what it was like the true meaning of Halloween. All of the discussion about Halloween brought about the discussion about favorite holidays of all-time and that was another interesting discussion because some viewers came up with flag day. Another viewer said that their favorite holiday was Earth Day. However, my favorite one was a viewer said their favorite holiday was pancake day because it meant they could eat pancakes all day long. It was a really interesting show and a lively show as well.

Alumni Reach Out

th (6).jpg

I hosted my radio show from 9 a.m. until 1p.m. I went a little longer than normal because I had a lot of interesting stuff to say. I previewed the upcoming soccer match against Walsh for both the men’s and women’s teams. I gave my take on what I thought would be the biggest key to victory for both teams. I gave a prediction for both games. I previewed the upcoming college football game for Tiffin and discussed my view on what I thought the Dragons needed to do to come out with the victory. Since we are a little over halfway through the semester, I discussed my takeaway from my impressions at Tiffin as a student. I also asked anyone to share their thoughts on what their experiences were like at Tiffin as a student. The most interesting response I received came from someone who went to school in 1992 at Tiffin and she said how Tiffin has grown and improved in so many areas. She said her career would not be where it is today if it were not for the people and the professors at Tiffin. She learned many lessons that she still uses today and has instilled those lessons in her children. I enjoyed talking to students and alumni about their experiences because it gave me some clarification on my decision to Tiffin University and become a dragon and also hopefully one day I will be an alumni of Tiffin and be able to share some wisdom with future students at Tiffin.

Week in Review

20191216_081205.jpg

Today on the show, I previewed Saturday’s soccer matches for the dragons against Malone for both the men and women. I gave my keys to victory and I also gave my prediction for each contest. The football team is on a bye, so I gave my thoughts on how I thought the team is performing so far and the job Coach Reisert and his coaching staff in their first season at Tiffin University. I shared my opinion on the strengths of the team and I also shared my opinions on where I thought the team can continue to improve. I previewed the upcoming college football and NFL games. I gave some predictions on the Ohio State game and how I thought my favorite NFL team would do, the Kansas City Chiefs. I recapped everything that happened over the week on campus and recapped everything that I discussed on the radio show. I also discussed my favorite and most underrated moment of the week. I asked viewers to share their thoughts on how their week went. Most responses were they were glad the week was just about over, and they were ready to relax for the weekend. I had a few responses that included they wished the weekend would not come because it meant the kids would be out of school for the weekend. Most of the discussions were centered around school, work, and relaxation. I had one response say they can’t wait for the weekend so they can go watch the Tiffin soccer games.

Tiffin Athletics Recap

I began my day reviewing the outcomes of the dragon’s soccer games against Malone for both the men and women. I reviewed the weekend action in the NFL and college football and how I thought Ohio State looked, as well as the Kansas City Chiefs. I shared my opinions on what I thought it meant moving forward as the season is a little over halfway through and the playoff pictures are starting to take shape. I shared my opinion on the best thing I saw over the weekend and how I believe it changed my perspective on how I live my life moving forward. I shared my thoughts on how to handle to get back into a mode of work and school after the weekend and how I adjust. After my show was over, I worked on so audio and video editing from previous games and commercials. I edited the events that were filmed on campus within the last couple of weeks. I edited some commercials that I recorded during the weekend that I felt were important to the following week’s events on campus from both academically and athletically. I edited a basketball game that I recorded from my room to practice on my editing skills and to gain a better understanding for how the system works. I organized my itinerary for the next radio show to have a understanding of what I want to accomplish on the show and what I want to talk about during the few hours I am on-air.

Soccer Match vs Findlay

Today was the final regular season home matchup for the men’s and women’s soccer teams. The games were against Findlay. It was also the men’s senior day, so it was a very special moment for the seniors on the team. I arrived about two hours early to help set up the equipment for the rivalry games. I wanted to make sure that everything was set up properly for the final time for the seniors at Paradiso Soccer Field. It was a very cold and windy day, so I wanted to make sure the camera was set up in proper fashion and have it secure enough to where it would not blow over. After I set up the camera, I assisted Russell with setting up the stream for the broadcast of the game. We had some issues with the stream, but later found out it was the company that we use and after contacting them we were able to fix the stream with no further issues. I ran the camera for the men’s game, which meant I had to be on point since it was senior day. I wanted to make sure the view was as good as possible. I believe I did a great job getting every shot from every angle that I possibly could. The camera was steady, although the wind did pick up as the game went on and I was able to get some valuable shots that will last a lifetime for these seniors. As for the game, it was a hard fought, physical game that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Findlay Soccer Review

wsoc-11-5.jpg

I hosted my radio show and I recapped the soccer games against Findlay. I discussed recent NBA action and how I believe the trade of Anthony Davis to the Lakers has revitalized Lebron, the Lakers organization, and the entire fanbase. I discussed why I believe the Lakers are on a path to meet the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA finals. I approached the subject of how I felt this was going to be the most exciting season in the NBA in a long time because with the injuries to some star players, there is parity in the league and there are several teams who are capable of winning a championship. I opened up a poll of who our listeners thought are the favorites to win the championship and 65% of the listeners thought the Lakers were the favorites, while 20% thought the Celtics were the favorites to win the championship, and 15% thought the Bucks were the favorite to win the championship. After my radio show, I did some editing on the soccer games against Findlay. I edited the video on the women’s game. As I was editing the women’s soccer game, I was also listening to the broadcast and noticed several mistakes I made and wrote down notes on areas that I need to improve on. It was beneficial for me to work on that as I continue to grow in the field. I edited the men’s video and noticed a couple of mistakes where I believe that I can improve in the area of camera work. Editing has been extremely beneficial because it gives me an opportunity to self-critique myself and I learn from my mistakes.

Volleyball Match vs Ky Wesleyan

rf9rkb3qx60n5xaq.jpg

I hosted my radio show where I previewed the upcoming volleyball match against Kentucky Wesleyan. I discussed how Jenna Huffman has had a remarkable career at Tiffin and her legacy is set as a Dragon. I gave my keys to victory for the Dragons to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan. I gave my prediction for the match and how the dragons needed to win the match to stay in the top 4 seeds to be able to have a home game in the conference tournament. I also provided a player who I felt needed to step up down the stretch in order for the team to be able to finish strong down the stretch run. After my radio show, I recorded a pregame show for the volleyball match and after I recorded the pregame show, I edited the audio and saved it to my flash drive. Later that day, I set up for the volleyball match. I first set up the camera because I wanted to make sure the camera shot was level and steady. After I knew the camera was set, I set up the broadcast stream for the match so viewers at home would be able to watch. I worked the camera for the match against Kentucky Wesleyan. I needed to make sure I had good angles on all views because Jenna Huffman was about to make history with her 1,000th career kill in her career at Tiffin. It was a monumental moment for Jenna and her family. The dragons won the match 3 sets to 0.

Volleyball Match vs Trevecca Nazarene

16j3tmhyvtfkf486.jpg

I hosted my radio show where I recapped a great day for the volleyball team and a much-needed win to stay in the top 4 seeds in the conference standings. I discussed how it was an extra special day for the Huffman family as Jenna recorded her 1,000 career kill during her time as a dragon. After my recap from the previous night, I previewed the match against Trevecca Nazarene, another conference foe who is a scrappy bunch and fights hard. I discussed how the team needed to quickly turn the page from the previous match against Kentucky Wesleyan and focus on Trevecca Nazarene to continue charging forward. I previewed the upcoming football game against Hillsdale, as well as the soccer match up against Walsh in the quarterfinal of conference tournament. I gave my keys to victory for all upcoming games and predictions for all three athletic events. I recorded a pregame promo for the three games for the upcoming weekend and I edited the audio to provide more samples. The pregame samples were a few minutes each and took about 10 minutes to edit. I arrived at the Student Gillmor center about 90 minutes early to begin setting up for the volleyball match. I set up the camera first to make sure the shot was level and even. After the shot was even, I set up the broadcast to make sure everything was for the stream to go live when the match started. I was the cameraman for the match and Russell called the match. I believe the shots went as well as they possibly could go.

Tiffin Athletics Recap

th (5).jpg

During my radio show, I recapped all the Tiffin athletic events beginning with the men’s soccer quarterfinal thriller in which the dragons scored the winning goal with 40 seconds left to advance to the semifinals beating Walsh 2-1. It was a great game and hard-fought game, but the dragons found a way to win. I received plenty of responses of students and alumni during the show about how happy and excited they are about the present and future of tiffin athletics. The listeners are really impressed with how well the football team is playing, especially the offense led by Nick Watson and JaQuan Hardy. Speaking about Tiffin football, I gave my impression about the football team’s victory over Hillsdale on Saturday. I gave my impression on who I thought was the key performer for the dragons and what I think it means going forward for the dragons as they continue their march to try to win the conference championship. I gave a little recap on the other action over the weekend in college football and the NFL. I gave my impressions on Ohio State’s impressive victory over Maryland and I also discussed the disappointing loss by the Chiefs against the Tennessee Titans. I discussed how I believe the Chiefs will not win a Super Bowl this year. After the show, I did a little editing on the men’s soccer quarterfinal match-up against Walsh. It was tough because the shot froze during the game, so parts of the game were not available however it was another valuable learning experience for me and a chance to hone my skills.

Commercial Recording/Editing

20191216_102055.jpg

I recorded some commercials today. The major commercial I recorded was the events that were occurring on campus this week. It gave me an opportunity to work on voice. Russell has been teaching me to project my voice and to instill more energy into my voice when announcing, so I have decided that is my homework assignment and something I really want to improve on as I continue with my career. The second commercial I recorded was a commercial about the great academic programs that the university has to offer. I wanted to balance academics with athletics into my commercials to provide future employers with my diversity. I hosted my show and discussed how the weather has quickly turned from warm to cold in a matter of days. I started to discuss a little about planning for finals and how to avoid stress and how I have managed to work ahead. I asked our listeners if anyone had suggestions on what they did or do to manage stress in their lives. I received some excellent responses ranging from meditation to reading to yoga. Our listeners have been excellent with their participation during the show and it is a pleasure to communicate with them. It makes the show more enjoyable. After the show, I edited my commercials to make them sound more professional and cleaner. I needed to cut out any dead space in the commercials where I paused at the end after I finished. After my editing, I believe the commercials will sound excellent to anyone who listens to them.

Basketball Season Preview

mbb-12-7.jpg

I hosted the radio show and I discussed how I thought the men and women’s basketball teams were doing so far. I approached the topic of how I believe each team will do in the conference and how the conference strength is in the sport. I discussed each team’s strengths and weaknesses so far early in the season. I discussed the wrestling teams and how I thought the teams would do this year. I discussed the new coaching staff for the women wrestling team and how I thought his style and personality would interject with Tiffin and in the conference. I did a quick review of the fall sports that ended and where I believe each team needs to improve heading into the offseason. I gave a little preview of the upcoming football game against Findlay that is for the conference tournament championship and is also a rivalry game. We have not beaten Findlay in a long time, so this is an important game for the program. After my radio show, I began to look up a few statistics for the basketball teams to do a pregame promo for a couple of games that are coming up in the next couple of weeks. I have learned from Russell to research important stats and write out important notes to have before doing a pregame promo to avoid unnecessary time that is wasted. Russell is teaching me that researching is an important part of the job, especially before interviews because the interviews always sound more professional when research is done prior to the interview.

Volleyball Match vs. Walsh

vb-11-14.jpg

During the radio show, I discussed the impressive wins by the men and women’s basketball teams. I discussed at the end of the day that the score may have been impressive, the teams did show there are a lot of improvements that need to be made for both squads. I reviewed all the week’s happenings, both academically and athletically. I also looked forward to the weekend and the athletic events with the basketball teams heading to Salem and the football team heading to Findlay to take on the Oilers for the conference championship. I also looked ahead to the volleyball against Malone as the dragons look to stay among the top four seeds to be able to host a conference tournament game. After the show, I recorded a preview for the upcoming games, and I edited the audio to make it sound clean and professional. I arrived about 90 minutes early to begin setting up for the volleyball match. I began to set up the camera to get the picture steady and after the camera was steady, I set up the broadcast stream to make sure everything was set and ready to go when the match began. I operated the camera for the match, and I wanted to get a few close-up shots of Jenna Huffman because she is closing out her career at Tiffin. I believe I got all the shots needed in order to provide viewers an excellent experience from home and it gave them an opportunity to see their friends and loved ones play the sport they love.

I discussed a little about the matchup with Kutztown, which is the dragon’s playoff opponent. I discussed how I thought the dragons had some momentum heading into the game. I also discussed the upcoming conference tournament for the volleyball team as they clinched a top 4 seed and will host in the quarterfinal round against Findlay. I discussed what that meant towards their chances of winning the conference championship and clinching a berth in the playoffs. I discussed the recent success of the men’s soccer team and their playoff berth as they clinched the conference championship on Sunday. This was their second consecutive conference tournament title. I discussed the player I felt was the key to the recent success and who needs to step up for the team to have success in the playoffs. I discussed Ohio State’s impressive win over Rutgers and how I feel the team is continuing to improve each week and looks like the best team in the country. I reviewed the NFL action from over the weekend and I also previewed the Monday night game with the Chargers hosting the Chiefs. I hosted my radio show and I discussed the Monday night game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Diego Chargers, which the Chiefs won the game 24-17 because of their defense. I discussed how the defense has improved. However, I also discussed how the super bowl chances went out the window for the Chiefs because of the injury to Patrick Mahomes. I discussed if I feel the coaching staff has handled the situation wrong all year long because he has dealt with injuries all year. I discussed the upcoming volleyball match between Tiffin and Findlay and the how I see the match going. I gave my prediction for the match. I discussed more about the upcoming playoff runs for the men’s soccer and the football teams and how it is an exciting time to be a student-athlete at Tiffin right now due to the recent success of the teams. After my show, I did some pre-game recording on the volleyball match against Findlay and I did some editing of the promo, which took about 20 minutes. I arrived at the gym about 75 minutes early to begin setting up for the match. I set the camera up and made sure the shot was even. After the camera was steady, I set up the broadcast to make sure everything was ready for the quarterfinal match because everything is more intense since it is the conference tournament instead of a regular season game. I believe I did a good job getting the right shots for the game, including the shots of the seniors, since it was their final game at Tiffin.

I hosted my radio show where I discussed the volleyball’s win over Findlay and how I believe they will fare against Walsh in the conference semifinal match. I discussed how it must have been an emotional time for the seniors as they walk off the floor for the final time at Tiffin. I continued to discuss the upcoming matchups with the soccer team and football team as they prepare for their playoff runs. Since Thanksgiving is approaching fast, I discussed my favorite food at Thanksgiving, while also asking listeners to share their favorite food during Thanksgiving. Most of the responses were either stuffing or mashed potatoes with pumpkin pie mixed into the responses as well. I shared what I am most thankful for this holiday season. I previewed the upcoming men’s basketball game against Fanshawe and how I thought the dragons would do in the contest. I also previewed the women’s basketball game against Lake Superior State and gave my keys to victory for that contest. I did some pre-game recording for the men and women’s basketball contests for the evening and did some editing on the audio. I researched both opponents, especially Fanshawe since they are in Canada and have no previous knowledge of their team or stats. Researching for an opponent out of the country is tricky because they play teams with different brands and styles and can sometimes have names that are hard to pronounce. That is why research is key in the media to get the information correct.

I hosted my radio show where I recapped the men’s basketball impressive victory over Fanshawe. I discussed how coach Church seemed to make all the right moves at the right time. I discussed how the basketball team, while young are seeming to find its identity as they continue to move forward through the season. I discussed on who I think is playing the best for the team and who I believe is the most underrated player for the team right now. I gave my impressions on areas that the team still needs to improve on before they get into conference action. I previewed the upcoming games for the men and women as they head into action. The men head to Kentucky State, while the women will head to Saginaw Valley. I gave my keys to victory and predictions for both contests. I began to discuss the upcoming NFL and college football action for the upcoming weekend, specifically Ohio State taking on Penn State and I discussed the Chiefs season to date, as they were on a bye over the weekend. I also discussed MLB free agency and why I think the moves have not happened yet, and where I believe each player will be playing next season. After my show, I did some video editing on the basketball game against Fanshawe. It helped me out because it gave me an opportunity to self-critique myself announcing. I was able to write notes on what I need to improve on as I continue to announce athletic events at Tiffin.

Playoff Pregame Recording

20191213_171412.jpg

I hosted my final radio show before Thanksgiving break. I discussed the upcoming playoff games for the football teams and the men’s soccer teams. I gave predictions for both teams. I discussed the upcoming basketball game for the men’s basketball game as they travel to Kentucky State before the break. I gave my keys for victory for the dragons. I also previewed the upcoming game between Ohio State and Michigan and discussed why I believed Ohio State would overwhelm Michigan to win their 8th straight in the rivalry. I also looked at other rivalry games such as Auburn and Alabama, as well as Minnesota and Wisconsin. As Thanksgiving is fast approaching, I went into detail on what I am most thankful about this year and asked our listeners to submit their inquiries about what they are most grateful for this year. Most responses seemed to center around family, friends, and health. I discussed my favorite Thanksgiving tradition and why I look forward to this tradition every year. I asked our listeners to submit their favorite tradition of Thanksgiving. Some of the responses were interesting. For example, I received a response about how their family goes on vacation to relax and goes out to eat for Thanksgiving as a tradition. After my show, I recorded pre-game promos for the basketball game, as well as the football and men’s soccer playoff games for the upcoming weekend. Due to the high stakes involved with the playoff games, the content is a little longer than usual. Normally my pre-game promos are about three minutes long, this time they are about five minutes long, which I think is fine considering the amount of content involved in the games.

I hosted the radio show where I got to see the new set up that Russell did over Thanksgiving break. He rearranged the station to make it more accessible for work to be done during broadcasts and shows. I discussed the victory by Ohio State over Michigan. I discussed what the loss means for Jim Harbaugh’s legacy at Michigan, as well as his future. I discussed whether Ohio State can afford to lose to Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game and still make the playoffs. I also discussed the Chiefs victory over the Oakland Raiders and how the victory basically sealed the AFC West division for the Chiefs. I began the discussion of whether it was too early to set up a Christmas tree. I gave my opinion on the subject. I asked our listeners to give their opinions on the subject as well. Most of the viewers agreed that right after Thanksgiving is the perfect time to start setting up Christmas Decorations. As the month turns to December, the station has begun to play Christmas music a couple times throughout the show because viewers are starting to get in the spirit. After my radio show, I recorded a couple of commercials, one of the commercials was about the new nursing program the school just announced. The second commercial I recorded is about the events that are taking place on campus throughout the week, both academically and athletically. I edited the commercials to make sure they were at 15 and 30 second commercials respectfully.

I discussed the Chiefs signing running back Spencer Ware and how that might impact the match-up against the Patriots on Sunday.  I discussed the Ohio State men’s basketball matchup against North Carolina. I gave my keys to victory and I discussed one player that needed to step up for the Buckeyes to pull out a victory in Chapel Hill. I gave my prediction for the contest. I discussed all the events that will be occurring on campus this week such as the Christmas parade, as well as the upcoming athletic events that will be taking place on the road by several teams beginning Thursday. I previewed how I thought the basketball teams would fare in conference play after a few games to get acclimated. I discussed the job that both coach Church and coach Ivey have done with their squads being young and adjusting to players being inexperienced. After my show, I recorded commercials that included Ohio students being eligible for a half tuition benefit, a theatre production that will take place in 2020 at Tiffin, Tiffin accepting Ph.D. applicants beginning in 2020 for Global Leadership and Change, and the Dragon Coaches Caravan.

Radio Show/Commercials

20191216_082027.jpg

Today I hosted my radio show where I discussed Ohio State’s huge win over North Carolina on Wednesday. I discussed the possibility about how there is a legitimate argument that the Buckeyes could be ranked #1 when the next poll comes out. I examined about how this may be the best basketball team Ohio State has had since Jerry Lucas played for the Buckeyes. I also discussed how the Big Ten may be the best conference in college basketball with a possibility of 4 teams making an appearance in the top 5 when the new poll comes out. I talked about the accomplishments achieved by JaQuan Hardy who was named an All-American, just the second Tiffin football player to be named an All-American and Jenna Huffman who was named to the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) all-Region team, as well as the D2CCA First team All-Midwest Region. I also discussed how the men and women track teams both cracked the top 25 in the preseason poll, with the women’s team ranked 21st and the men were ranked 1st according to the USTFCCCA Rating. I discussed the upcoming basketball games tonight for the men and women as both teams begin conference play at Trevecca Nazarene. Commercials/Helmet Camera

20191214_143603.jpg

I hosted my radio show from 9 a.m. until noon and I discussed the men’s basketball disappointing defeat against Trevecca Nazarene. I discussed how shooting woes finally caught up with them and how the team must bounce back quickly as they travel to take on Kentucky Wesleyan on Saturday. On the positive side, I discussed the women’s victory against Trevecca Nazarene. I discussed while the women have been impressive, they have also had moments where their offense has seemed to struggle at times and eventually those struggles could catch up to them. I previewed both the men’s and women’s games on Saturday against the Panthers. I previewed the Big Ten Championship game which features Ohio State and Wisconsin. I discussed what the Buckeyes need to do in order to remain at #1. I discussed how Wisconsin can upset the Buckeyes. I also previewed the other championship games, including the SEC (Southeastern Conference) Championship game featuring Georgia and LSU. I gave my prediction for each championship game and how I feel the playoff committee will rank the teams on Sunday.  After the show, I edited recorded and produced more liners and commercials including a liner about how prospective students considering a career in sports management should consider Tiffin University. I also recorded a commercial about the upcoming martial arts demonstration in the Osceola room. After producing a few commercials, I assisted Russell in setting up the helmet camera in the gym for the rest of the basketball games. The picture was clear, but the control for the camera did not work, so we  must continue working on it next week.

Radio Show

20191214_143611.jpg

Today I hosted my radio show and I discussed the disappointing defeats by the men’s basketball team to Trevecca Nazarene and Kentucky Wesleyan over the weekend. I reviewed how the youth and inexperience may finally be catching up to them as they begin conference play. I discussed why this year may be a struggle for the basketball team, the growth of the team throughout the early part of the season is a great sign for the future of the program as young players mature. I also reviewed the women’s basketball games over the weekend where they split their first 2 conference games of the year by defeating Trevecca Nazarene and falling to Kentucky Wesleyan in a hard-fought game. I explained while the women’s program is also young, they are talented, and the future is very bright under the direction of Coach Ivey.

I discussed the impressive performance by the men’s wrestling program over the weekend by winning the Ohio Northern Invitational, which included five individual champions and two runner-ups. I discussed the impressive performances by Christopher Donathan and David Henson getting two straight pins to take home a championship at 149 pounds and 285 pounds respectively.  The fall athletes continued to collect honors and although the men’s soccer team season ended early, Leo Hasenstab and Joel Daly were honored by being placed on the All-Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches. I examined while it was an up and down year for the team, next year could be even better for the dragons. After my show, I worked on editing a few of my commercials that I recorded at the end of last week and I wrote down some commercial ideas that Russell gave me that I will be recording this week.

Commercial Recording/ Editing

EAB53805-8E31-49D6-B69F-F52027ED962D.png

I conducted my radio show from 9 am until noon where I discussed the Ohio State men’s basketball team rise to the #3 ranking in the polls. I examined how this might be the best basketball team that Ohio State has had since the Greg Oden and Mike Conley era. I discussed the college football rankings and how Ohio State struggling against Wisconsin caused them to fall to #2 and set up the match up with Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl. I examined the history between the two teams dating back to when Woody Hayes punched Charlie Bauman in the 1978 Gator Bowl and ever since, there has been tension between the two programs.

I dissected the other semifinal matchup between LSU and Oklahoma, as well as discussed who I feel has an advantage heading into the game. I asked viewers listeners to submit their most intriguing bowl matchup of the year and most agreed the one game they want to watch besides Ohio State is the Citrus Bowl between Michigan and Alabama. A few other responses included the Rose Bowl and the Cotton Bowl, which features Penn State and Memphis.

I uploaded and edited more commercials that I recorded this morning, which included a commercial about the kids’ sports day on January 20 in the Heminger Center. I researched and gathered statistics for the events coming up this weekend, so I can start preparing for when I record my preview of each individual contest over the next several days leading up to Saturday.

12/11/2019 - 5 Hours

Commercial Recording/Helmet Camera

20191214_143604.jpg

I hosted my radio show where I discussed Jenna Huffman becoming the first tiffin dragon in volleyball history to be named an All-American. I examined how Jenna has an argument to be the best volleyball player in the history of Tiffin and could make a case as one of the best athletes ever to attend Tiffin. I examined how successful this fall campaign was for Tiffin athletics was. I examined how as successful as the 2019-2020 campaign was for fall athletics was for the dragons, the potential is there for the 2020-2021 campaign to be even better for the dragons.

I recorded a commercial that Russell sent me about the polar blast snow tubing in Northfield, Ohio that will be hosted by Tiffin Alumni. Russell and I went over to the gym to work on the helmet camera to fix the issues that we have been having lately. We unhooked all the cables associated with the camera and hooked everything back up. It took some time however, we eventually figured it out and the got the camera to work properly. I have never used the helmet camera before, so I spent some time getting used to the different motions of how the camera works before the basketball games this weekend. Russell will be unavailable tomorrow and there is an event that needs recorded in the Franks Hall in the Chisholm auditorium, so Russell and I took the equipment to the athletics office to store for tomorrow and he showed me the best place to record the events , since I have never recorded an event in the auditorium before.

Weekend Preview

e8o8i04d4c5jsj07.jpg

Today I hosted my radio show and I discussed the Yankees giving Gerrit Cole over $300 million in guaranteed money and the Los Angeles Angels giving Anthony Rendon over $250 million in guaranteed money, which led to the discussion of how baseball players can benefit by receiving fully guaranteed contracts, whereas football players struggle to receive contracts that are partially guaranteed despite putting their bodies on the line every time they step on the field. I examined how if I was a player in the NFL, my number one concern regarding the next cba negotiations would be getting fully guaranteed contracts.

I previewed this weekend’s athletic events with the men and women’s basketball teams getting set to host preseason favorite Walsh on Saturday. I gave my keys to each game contest, as well as an individual player that is an x-factor for the dragons. I also discussed the dragons track meet this Saturday, which will be their first home meet of the season and I examined how each season under coach Croy continues to get better, as his legacy at Tiffin is further cemented. With Christmas around the corner, Russell asked me to update the music logs and add more Christmas music to the show to get listeners in the spirit and keep them engaged and I also added updated commercials that have recently been recorded to let our listeners know what is in store in the near future around campus. I recorded my preview for the upcoming events this weekend and I will edit those tomorrow.

Radio Show/Editing

th (3).jpg

I hosted my radio show where I recapped the Thursday night game between the Ravens and the Jets. I examined how Lamar Jackson might be changing the way scouts begin to evaluate the quarterback position moving forward and how Jackson might be the face of the league by this time next year. I examined the coaching job John Harbaugh has done this year has cemented his case for coach of the year and no other coach even comes close. I also recapped the college football awards ceremony that took place on Thursday and how Ohio State was overlooked by the decision makers in some of the decisions, specifically Jeff Okudah and the Thorpe Award. I examined how the Buckeyes could use this as motivation heading into the playoffs.

Christmas is only a week and a half away; I gave our listeners my all-time favorite gifts as a child. I asked the listeners to submit some of their favorite gifts growing up. The responses I received were excellent. One of the responses was a rock ‘em sock ‘em robots, he received back in the 1990s. A few responses that were submitted were when they received easy bake ovens. I gave my prediction for each athletic event that will take place this weekend and explained my reasoning for the prediction. After the show, I edited the audio for the recordings of the previews for the athletic events from the previous day. The music log was updated to include more Christmas music, so from 10 am until noon it will be Christmas songs all hour long.

Tiffin Basketball Game

Today I covered the men’s basketball game vs Walsh at the Student Gillmor Center. Today was my first time operating the helmet camera and it took me a while to get used to it, even though I had some time to practice with it beforehand. However, the camera is quite different from the previous cameras that I have operated recently. It is more convenient, and it allows our viewers who watch the broadcast stream to see the picture more clearly. The way to operate the helmet camera is like how you play a video game. The camera is operated by a controller that has similar motions as an Xbox controller. For example, the camera controller has different buttons to operate certain motions on it like zoom in and out, or left and right motions. Towards the end of the game, I began to become more comfortable with the operation of the camera and I believe that I will have no more issues moving forward.

Walsh was a tough opponent and they were ranked as the preseason favorite to win the conference and the dragons competed for a while, but eventually Walsh pulled away in the end and beat Tiffin 81-70. The dragon’s youth and inexperience are beginning to show as conference pay has begun, as well as the lack of size and a low-post scoring option has really affected Tiffin’s offensive output in the last few games. Opponents have taken advantage of the lack of size, especially on the rebounds as the dragons are being outrebounded at nearly a 2-1 pace. The men will take on Malone on Monday at the Student Gillmor Center at 7:30 pm.

Audio Edit/Basketball Game

20191216_170439.jpg

My last radio show was for the year was Friday, so today I focused on audio recording and editing. I recorded three commercials and a liner today, which included a preview of the men’s basketball game against Malone tonight, as the basketball team looks to get their first conference win and snap a three- game losing streak. I recorded commercials about the virtual research conference and the student research conference in April. I recorded a liner about the all Ohio music hour, which the music plays from 9-10 am Monday through Friday. Once I finished recording everything, I began to edit everything to make sure everything sounded professional for prospective employers.

Tonight, I covered the men’s and women’s basketball games against the Malone Pioneers. I was the camera operator for both contests. As I accurately predicted after Saturday’s games, I was more efficient at operating the helmet camera. However, I was not as efficient as I wanted to be and I still made mistakes that I was not pleased with, but I understand at the end of the day it is a learning process and each time I use it, I will operate with more efficiency. Throughout my brief time working with WTUD, I have learned no matter how hard I try at a task, there will always be something to improve on. I have grown to remain patient and continue to work hard. As for the game, the women and men both suffered defeats at the hands of the Pioneers. The women lost 79-58 and the men lost 99-94. The women are now 5-8 overall with a 1-3 conference record, while the men are 5-7 overall with 0-4 conference record.

Radio Show/Basketball Game

20200109_160132 (1).jpg

I hosted my first radio show of the semester and I discussed the results of the college football semifinal playoff game, while also previewing the upcoming the national championship game between LSU and Clemson. I dissected the playoff matchups for this upcoming weekend for the NFL. I examined how I felt the Tiffin winter sports teams fared over Christmas break and gave my opinion how I felt on where they stand in the conference and the country. I discussed the upcoming basketball games against Hillsdale and examined what the men’s and women’s team must do to come out victorious. On a lighter note, I discussed how my winter break went and invited viewers listening to discuss how their Christmas and winter break was. Most of the responses were positive as the viewers got to spend quality time with family and friends.

After the radio show ended, I produced nine commercials that will eventually be used on the station. The commercials included the men’s and women’s basketball alumni event, the soccer alumni event, the first ever kids’ sports event, and lacrosse alumni day. I feel I am improving my skills at producing a commercial. I have a grasp of how to edit the audio and put music, as well as special effects into a commercial. I operated the camera for the men’s and women’s basketball game against Hillsdale College. Compared to my first experience operating the camera, I have improved immensely, and I feel my contributions with WTUD will only grow and continue to get better as I gain more experience throughout the semester.

Radio Show

20200109_091310.jpg

I hosted my radio show where I discussed the men’s and women’s defeats at the hands of Hillsdale College. I examined if the basketball teams are regressing or if the coaches are making the right changes during certain situations. I previewed the upcoming basketball games against Findlay on Saturday and gave my keys to each game. I discussed what I would do if I were the coach of each team during the rest of the season to try to build some momentum heading into the final stretch of the season and into the offseason. With the NFL playoffs staring up again this weekend, I looked at the landscape and dissected each individual team and gave my opinion on who I felt has the best chance to win the super bowl. I also made my prediction for Monday’s national championship game between LSU and Clemson.

After the show was complete, I produced a couple more commercials. One of the commercials that was produced included a preview of the upcoming basketball games against Findlay. I also produced a commercial about the upcoming track and field competition for Saturday. I updated the logs for next week that included the new commercials, as well as new music which was recently sent to the station. I worked on my next podcast for an upcoming show that will be featured during an upcoming show. The podcast will be 30 minutes long. The podcast will feature recent news, sports, upcoming athletic, and academic events around Tiffin University.

Basketball Game

20200111_160154 (1).jpg

I arrived a couple hours early to the student Gillmor center to set the equipment up for the basketball games against Findlay. My first objective was to set up the helmet camera. I wanted to make sure the camera was in proper position prior to the game. Russell had some family obligations to attend to, so I made sure to set up the broadcast and to make sure the radio station was up and running prior to tip-off. During basketball games, we always broadcast the gamest through the Great Midwest Digital Network and through the TUDragonradion.com. After I finished setting up everything, I went to the athletic website on the basketball site to make sure the video feed was running correctly.  Everything was up and running as expected.  The crowd for the game were mainly from Findlay, partly because a lot of the students were not back from winter break yet. Once the game started, I was the camera operator for the men’s and women’s basketball games. The camera was a little sensitive today and I had to make some in game adjustments as to how I positioned myself while operating the camera and it seemed to help as the camera worked fine after I made the adjustment. Both the men’s and the women’s team suffered defeats at the hands of the Oilers. The women lost a close hard-fought game 67-66, while the men were manhandled 84-65. The next broadcast will not be until next Saturday at the Tiffin Dragon Open, so after the men’s game was complete, we tore the equipment down so we could use it for the next broadcast.

Radio Show/ Audio Recording

20191216_103415.jpg

I began the week with my new time slot for my radio show of 11 am – 1 pm today. Russell decided it was time to start doing live radio once again, so he took the slot of 9 am- 11 am. Throughout my show, I discussed the NFL playoff games that happened over the weekend. More importantly, I discussed the roller coaster I went through watching the Chiefs come from a 24-point deficit to defeat the Texans. Heading into the championship week I examined the strengths and weaknesses of the final four teams, and who I feel has the most momentum heading into the weekend. I previewed the College Football National Championship and predicted a winner for the game, and examined while many Ohio State are rooting for Joe Burrow to win it because he is an ex-buckeye; it might not be the best thing for Ohio State for LSU to win.

I reviewed the weekend’s action at Tiffin, where it was not a great weekend overall for the Tiffin athletic programs. The men’s and women’s swimming teams suffered defeats in their meet against the Oilers, and the men and women’s basketball programs were also defeated by the University of Findlay. After my show, I worked on recording some commercials for some events that will be taking place throughout the semester on campus. For example, I recorded a commercial about the global citizenship trip that will take place this May and will be hosted by DoHee Kim-Appel from Heidelberg University. The trip includes anyone from the Tiffin community.

Radio Show/Organization

20200109_091310.jpg

I began my radio show by reviewing the national championship game between LSU and Clemson. As was previously mentioned on my show the day before, I examined why it might not be the best think for Ohio State that Joe Burrow won the national championship. While it is a long time away, I gave a quick preview for the 2020 college football season and gave my opinion on where I believe the Buckeyes will be ranked at the beginning of next season. I discussed the fallout from the MLB’s investigation into the Houston Astros and the sign stealing incidents and why I believe this is only the beginning. I examined if this is further proof that Pete Rose deserves to be in Cooperstown. I asked our listeners to weigh in on the topic and over 95% agreed that this incident is further proof the MLB is blackballing Pete Rose.

I decided to add a little twist to the show today and give my five all-time favorite cereals and once I revealed my list, I asked our viewers to reveal their list of favorite cereals. Most of the lists were expected. The cereal that all the viewers agreed on it seemed was fruity pebbles which was interesting to say the least. After the show was over, I organized the music and commercial logs for the remainder of the week, and I helped Russell get organized for this Saturday for the track meet that will be broadcasted from the Heminger Center. The track meet begins at noon.

01/15/2020 - 6 Hours

Radio Show

During my radio show today, I discussed the hazing controversy that is brewing at Penn State under coach James Franklin and how if there is one university that can not afford any bad publicity right now it is Penn State. I examine whether there needs to be more emphasis on hazing throughout sports and how society should take control of the situation. I examined the political situation with Iran, and I feel that President Trump is handling it as this is a volatile situation and the President is being watch very closely about what he will do next. I also discussed the potential impeachment trial in the senate, and I discussed how that might affect the decision-making process with Iran and the Middle East. I opened it up to our listeners about how they feel President Trump has done and if they feel he should be impeached. 52% of our listeners feel he has done a poor job as the President and 55% feel he should be impeached and will not vote for him in the next election.

I discussed how awesome it is that the Tiffin basketball team is honoring Jacoby Hope Arnold, the daughter of former dragon Jillian Arnold. Jacoby has battled non-immune Hydrops Fetalis, a life-threatening disorder with 5% of surviving at birth and she is getting ready to start kindergarten. I discussed with the sadness in society, she should give us hope, inspiration and should motivate us to be a better person, friend, colleague, and family member.

Radio Show

20200115_133521.jpg

During my radio show today, I discussed the Odell Beckham situation where he gave LSU players money after winning the national championship. I dove into with the inconsistencies of how the NCAA has handled similar cases, I believed nothing will happen to the players or the program. I discussed the future impact the sign stealing scandal will have on the rest of the league, and why I believe the scandal will turn out to be the best thing to ever happen for the league. I talked about a few concerts that are comping up in the Tiffin area, specifically Ohio Revival, which will take place at the end of January in Tiffin. I also mentioned the Umphrey’s McGee concert that will take place in Columbus, Ohio next in a couple of weeks. While on air, I acknowledged the Tiffin University Alumni Achievement Awards Banquet that will occur on September 18, 2020 during homecoming week. After the radio show, I organized my list for things I need to accomplish for the rest of the week, which included recording a couple commercials and one liner. The list also included finish editing commercials that were recorded earlier in the week. After I finished with my list, I went with Russell to the Paradiso complex to assist the football program with their big weekend. I got an inside look at what it takes for an event to recruit high school athletes Coach Reisert is bringing professionalism, confidence, and a different attitude to the football program.

I hosted my radio show and I previewed the NFL championship weekend and discussed my keys to each team winning and advancing to the Super Bowl. I opened a poll for our viewers to vote for their most likely matchup for the Super Bowl. An overwhelming 83% said the most likely matchup would be the San Francisco 49ers and the Tennessee Titans. When discussing the preview, I gave my predictions for each game, which was the same as what most of the viewers predicted. I predicted a score of 38-24 Titans and 32-16 for the 49ers to beat the Packers. Keeping with the football theme during my show and how the Super Bowl is only a few weeks away, I discussed my all-time favorite commercials of the Super Bowl, which mainly includes commercials from Doritos and Budweiser. Most of the viewers weighed in on their thoughts and came up with some good responses as well. The overwhelming response from most viewers was their sentimental favorite was when the Clydesdales honored the World Trade Centers. I absolutely agreed with that assertion. I finished out the show with one thing I would like to accomplish over the weekend and invited viewers to chime in as well. I said to get some homework done. The viewers who responded said they would like to get some house and yard work done that they have been putting off for a couple of weeks. It was a great week of shows and a lot of interesting conversation with some interesting responses from some viewers. I can’t wait to see what next week brings.

Radio Show/ Music Logs

20200121_141156.jpg

I hosted my radio show and I reviewed the weekend’s action for the Dragons. Throughout the show, there were several viewers who were at the Tiffin Dragon Open on Saturday and were extremely impressed by how well trained the Dragons track team was compared to the other teams at the event. The viewers believe this may be the best team that Coach Croy has had since he has been the coach at Tiffin, and they should be the favorites for the national championship this year for both the men and the women. It was a disappointing weekend for both basketball programs as they were defeated by Lake Erie on Saturday. I discussed how and where the season went wrong for both teams. I reviewed the weekend’s NFL championship games and while on a personal level I was excited that the Chiefs are going to the super bowl, I discussed why I feel they need to fix several issues if they want to win the Super Bowl. I discussed how I felt going in the Titans had a significant advantage going into the with their running game, but the Chiefs defense stepped up and the offense made plays. I reviewed the NFC championship game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers. I discussed how the 49ers should be the prohibitive favorite going into the Super Bowl because they are the most complete team. After the radio show, I updated the music and the commercial logs for the rest of the week.

Radio Show/ Commercial Production

20200115_133521.jpg

I hosted the radio show and I discussed the brawl between Kansas and Kansas State that was unnecessary and why I felt both schools should be penalized for their actions. I examined the unfortunate rise in fighting in college athletics, especially basketball, and I explored the topic of whether that has to do with the society the player has been raised in or the peer pressure surrounding the player. I discussed the new textbook that is authored by Dr. Bonnie Tiell and I explained what an honor it is to be taught by Dr. Tiell. I discussed how her accomplishments and connections throughout the sports industry influenced my decision to come to Tiffin. As preseason preseason coaches polls get set to be released, I give a quick preview of the spring sports and how I think each team will fare throughout the season and based on last years results, what would be considered a successful season. After the radio show, I produced a couple of commercials for myself and for the station to use on air. One of the commercials was about the student engagement activities this week, and the second commercial I produced was about the women’s leadership conference taking place in March. I also organized some music for the day to in the right category. For example, He asked me to put a song that was a originally in the Ohio song category into the Hip hop logs and a song that was in the rock n roll category into the Jammies category.

Men's Basketball Broadcast

20200123_201501.jpg

Before my radio show, I produced a few commercials. The first commercial I produced was the preview of the men’s basketball games against Ohio Dominican and Alderson Broaddus. The second commercial I produced was a preview of the women’s basketball games against Ohio Dominican. I also produced a third commercial, which was about the women’s wrestling preview against East Stroudsburg that will be broadcasted on Friday. During my radio show, I discussed those upcoming athletic events, notably the basketball games on Saturday against Ohio Dominican. I examined what each team must accomplish throughout their respective contest to come away victorious. I discussed how while the seasons may not have gone as well as each team would have liked, there is still a lot to accomplish and the last month of the season will determine whether the teams will be successful next year based on attitude and leadership. I previewed the women’s wrestling match against East Stroudsburg, and I examined the job coach Goebel has done in his first season at the helm of the women’s wrestling program and why I believe the future is bright for the program.

Later in the day, I covered the men’s basketball game against Alderson Broaddus. I worked the camera operations for the game. Everything went smoothly. I have gotten used to controlling the camera that is become second nature to me. I was able to be allowed of the broadcast, as after every media timeout, I will update the listeners with certain statistics during the game that are meaningful. I enjoyed doing it because it keeps me part of the broadcast and gives me more experience.

Women's Wrestling Broadcast

I hosted my radio show and I discussed the Ohio State men’s basketball continue downward spiral as they lost to Minnesota at the buzzer 62-59. I examined how this might be the worst collapse in the history of not only Ohio State basketball history, but college basketball history. I questioned whether coach Holtman was truly the right man for the job as he looks unprepared and overwhelmed during the season. I discussed how some coaches are truly made for the small school life and coach Holtman is one of those coaches. I began a new feature for the show, and it is called “Friday Fun Day” The point of the feature is to say what the funniest thing that happened to the listener this week, or the funniest story the listener heard or seen. I began with a funny story about how I read a story about a dog every time he smiles, he looks like an Elvis impersonator with his lips.

The listeners gave some great stories however one story that stood out to me during the feature was a lady from Michigan that called in said her nephew tried to snowboard from the roof and when he fell, he did the splits and could not get up for 15 minutes. Russell had a family event to attend in the evening, so I broadcasted the women’s wrestling match against East Stroudsburg. The broadcast went about as well as I could have hoped. There were no issues with the stream or the camera or the microphone. I am very appreciative that Russell puts me in a position to flourish and a chance to expand my skills. The best part about the evening is that a few of the wrestlers came up and showed their appreciation for the work I did broadcasting the event. I now understand what hard work can do in the industry. I will see you all for the basketball game tomorrow.

Alumni Basketball Game

20200125_144522.jpg
20200125_114611.jpg

Today I covered the women’s and the men’s basketball games against the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. It was alumni day and we also honored Jacoby Hope Arnold, who has defied the odds and survived a rare non-immune disorder known as Hydrops Fetalis. She was given a 5% chance of surviving. She is a hero in our eyes. Due to the huge and important events, I decided to arrive earlier than normal to set up everything to make sure everything was working properly. I believed aside from Findlay; this was the most important game on our schedule. After I set up the broadcast and the radio station were set up, the next objective was to make sure the video stream and audio was running properly, so viewers and listeners could tune in. Everything was smoothly for both contests.

During pregame and halftime for both games, Russell had to go to the locker room and the court to film activities that were taking place. My responsibilities while he was doing that was to run the press box (camera, commercial, radio station, etc.).  Russell also said I was to handle a little broadcasting responsibility in case he was not able to make it back in time for the game. He made it back just in time for the game. My responsibilities for the game were camera operations and to give game statistics during each contest. This was a very important game and more people were probably going to be listening to the contest, so I wanted to make sure I did an excellent job to represent myself and the university in a positive way. I believe and hope I accomplished that.

01/27/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

20200127_112709.jpg

Before my show, I produced a few commercials that I put into the radio stations system. One of the commercials I produced was about the human trafficking presentation that will be hosted by the Tiffin global affairs organization. I hosted my radio show and I discussed the weekend’s action for the Dragons. I discussed the disappointing weekend it was for the basketball teams as they were defeated by Ohio Dominican on Alumni Day. I discussed why I feel it may be time for coaching changes because the teams are not responding well to the message from either coach. I discussed the good news that came from the weekend as several track athletes on the men’s and women’s team performed well at the Saginaw Valley Invitational. More specifically, a squad of Lenell Shelby III, Josiah Gadson, Brandon Lynn, and Joshua Page broke a GMAC record in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16:15. I discussed how Shelby III was a huge winner at the event because he also moved into ninth in Tiffin history in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.27 seconds.

I discussed how the women did excellent at Saginaw Valley as well, especially Rajiah Andrews winning the 60m dash with a time of 7.52 seconds, which was second in GMAC history. She currently holds the record. Andrews finished second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds. Keyonna McGill won the 400m dash with a time of 57.34 seconds, which moved her into fifth in Tiffin history in the event. During the show, I discussed while the track team performed good at Saginaw, the men’s wrestling performed great because they won the GMAC championship. I discussed how this might be Tiffin’s best wrestling team in history and this might be an ascending sport and I examined how the women’s wrestling team might benefit from the men’s success.

01/28/2020 - 6 Hours

20200128_120434.jpg

Commercials/Radio Show

Before the show, I produced a few more commercials, which included commercials such as the TU Student Engagement activities that will be occurring this week. Another commercial I produced was the intercultural experience trip that Tiffin students, alumni, and faculty will be taking in June of 2021. I recorded a commercial about the Tiffin athletic events that will be taking place this week. After listening to a couple of commercials, I decided to produce commercials again that I did yesterday, since I was not pleased after listening to the commercials again. The commercials that I redid have more quality to them and sound more professional.

I assisted Russell in getting equipment ready to go for tomorrow’s wrestling match as the men will take on Rochester at 7pm in the Gillmor Student Center. During the radio show, while it has not been too cold, I feel I am ready for summer and the warm weather to arrive. I opened the discussion to the listeners and asked them to chime in and tell me what their favorite season of the year is. The results were split, with 42% saying summer was their favorite season, followed by fall at 33%, spring at 20%, and winter at 5%. The divide surprised me because I was expecting a bigger gap with summer leading the way for most people. Before the show ended, news broke about the women’s track team having its highest ranking in history, so I discussed how long it should be before coach Croy should be placed in the athletics hall of fame with the type of dominance he is creating at Tiffin.

01/29/2020 - 6 Hours

Men's Wrestling Broadcast

20200129_182140.jpg

I produced a few more commercials before my radio show this morning and I edited a couple of commercials that I originally produced earlier in the week. To begin the day, I recorded and produced a commercial about the Chinese New Year celebration that will happen at the end of the month. After the commercial was produced, I recorded and produced a commercial about the international dinner celebrating all the students from 31 different countries at Tiffin University. After those two commercials were produced and entered into the station, I edited the Tiffin student engagement commercial and the Tiffin weekly athletics commercial, which I will be doing on a daily basis, so listeners can continue to stay up-to-date on the latest news around campus academically and athletically. Compared to where I was to when I first started producing commercials and where I am now, I feel I have significantly improved my skills and I believe my skills will only continue to prove with more work.

During my radio show, I discussed the upcoming men’s wrestling match against Rochester, which is their only home match of the year. I examined how Trey Grine can secure his 100th career victory tonight and where he stands among the top wrestlers in history at Tiffin. I also gave some praise for the swimming and diving squad. I discussed how they have been under the radar, but their performances should not go unnoticed by anyone. I covered the men’s wrestling match against Rochester, it was senior night considering it was their only home match. I was working the camera operations and it was important for me to get great shots for the seniors and their families. Trey Grine recorded his 100th career victory at Tiffin, and the Dragons won the match 49-3 over Rochester. The Dragons secured seven pins on the night.

01/30/2020 - 4 Hours

Commercial Editing/Radio Show

20200130_101137.jpg

Today, I hosted my radio show where I discussed the impressive performance by the men’s wrestling team last night, which included the milestone of Trey Grine’s 100th career victory at Tiffin. I examined the impressive season that the men’s wrestling team has had this year and if it was not for the track and field team, the wrestling squad would and probably should be getting more praise and publicity. I previewed the upcoming men’s and women’s basketball games against Alderson Broaddus. I examined what each team needs to do better the second time around in order to come out with a victory. As I always do in my preview of each athletic event, I examine who I believe is the key player for each team. I gave my prediction for each contest. I also previewed the women’s wrestling match against Adrian. I examined how the team is a much more confident team now compared to when they faced Adrian earlier in the season, especially after covering their match a week ago. I explained how it is the lightweights led by Savannah Stacks that is leading the team this year. I gave my prediction for the match. After the show, I edited two commercials that I produced earlier in the week. The two commercials that I edited were the Tiffin student engagement commercial and the Tiffin weekly athletics commercial. To end the day, I updated the music and commercial logs, while also scheduling Facebook posts for upcoming songs and artists that would be playing the rest of the day and into the evening hours.

01/31/2020 - 4 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

20200131_090935.jpg

Before the radio show, I edited and deleted a few commercials from the system that were no longer needed because the events have already taken place. I produced a new commercial, which included a way for anyone on campus that needs assistance after hours can get in contact with security or maintenance. During my radio show, U discussed the upcoming events that will be taking place this weekend, including the men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as the track and field meet in Youngstown State. I examined the women’s wrestling victory over Adrian. I discussed that despite the hurdles by, the coaching staff has done an excellent job with the team this season. I examined the Super Bowl on Sunday between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. I examined the keys for each team to come out victorious in the game and gave my x-factor for the game. I gave my prediction for the game and who I believe will end the night as Super Bowl Champions. As I do every Friday, I finished the show with a segment called “Friday Fun day”, where people give their take on the funniest story they heard or read this week. The story I told was about how a dog was a waiter in England and would take orders out to the customers. This week, the stories were as interesting, but one that stuck out was about a squirrel stockpiling food on top of a house in Maine and the family that lived there would treat the squirrel like a house pet and feed it people food. After the show was over, I updated the music and commercial logs for the weekend and I also scheduled Facebook posts for the weekend to let our followers know what music will be coming up throughout the next hour.

02/03/2020 - 4 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

20200128_120434.jpg

Before the radio show today, I produced a liner featuring information about the stations All Ohio music lineups from 9-10 am and 9-10pm every Monday through Friday. I also edited a few commercials for Russell since he had some other business to take care of. During my radio show, I discussed the upcoming events that would be taking place on campus such as the campus musical, the various workshops taking place in the Gillmor and the Library and the upcoming alumni events that will be taking place in the month of February. With spring training only, a week away, I discussed how great it feels to have baseball starting up again. I discussed as a Royals fan, I am hoping they can accomplish what the Chiefs were able to do and bring home the championship. I analyzed the offseason moves and based on the offseason moves who I believe improved the most during the offseason and put themselves in a solid position to win the World Series. I examined that with coach Bigg resigning as coach of the soccer team, I feel it is time for the athletic department to get bold and not remain safe with the next coach. I discussed how the next hire of the women’s soccer coach needs to match or exceed the expectations the men’s team has met. After the radio show, Russell was busy handling other duties for the station, so he asked to schedule Facebook posts for the rest of the day. He also asked me to update the commercial and music logs, so new music and commercials will be updated in the station’s daily programming.

Radio Show/Commercials

20191216_081029.jpg

Today was not a great day for me. In fact, it might have been my worst day since my internship started. The day started out great. I decided to go in early to get ahead start on producing the weekly student engagement commercial, and since I arrived there before Russell, I assumed that today would be another good day. I was wrong. As I was editing the commercial, it seemed like I might have pressed a wrong button and the program is not working properly as it should and the program needs to be shut down and restored so everything can begin working properly again. The bad start to my day was only the beginning as that led to a bad show, as it seemed like for whatever reason, I could not talk at all. I was stumbling over words and could not recite the information that I intended to, and I sounded like a complete idiot when I spoke. After that, Russell told me that when I schedule a post on Facebook that it must be a certain way to live up to the standards for WTUD, so apparently everything I did for the day was wrong. Today felt like one of those days that will hopefully end up being a huge learning experience for me as I continue my journey to a broadcasting career. As the quote goes, “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”. I hope and believe that tomorrow will be a better day for me, and that for everyone bad day, there are ten good days.

02/05/2020 - 5 Hours

Signing Day/Basketball

20200205_170934 (1).jpg

Today I was not able to host my radio show or produce and commercials. I was covering the signing day coverage for the football team. I videotaped an interview between Russell and coach Reisert to discuss how the class fits in with the program, the different skillsets each player will bring to the team, and which player they hope and expect to contribute as a freshman. Coach Reisert also discussed the stories of recruiting certain players and how they were discovered by the coaching staff. It was my first time covering a signing day, so it was a good experience for me to get a behind the scenes look at what it is like to put together a recruiting class. I watched a lacrosse game from 2018 so I can get a feeling of how a lacrosse game is called, since I have never called a lacrosse game before. Later in the day, I covered the women’s basketball game vs Ursuline. I arrived a little early so I could assist in setting up the broadcast and reliving some of the pressure off Russell, so he could focus on other responsibilities he focuses on calling the game.  I operated the camera and as I normally do, I read off the game statistics during each media timeout. Today was a better day and I feel it was an extremely productively day as I continue my journey. I feel that yesterday made me a better intern and a better person as I learn from my mistakes every day.

02/06/2020 - 7 Hours

Radio Show

20200206_101047.jpg

I hosted my radio show and I discussed the huge victory for the women’s basketball team over the Ursuline Arrows 81-71. I discussed at how the women have seemed like they might have found their groove here as we near the end of the regular season. I examined the job that coach Ivey has done with this team and why I feel she and her entire coaching staff deserve a ton of credit for the way they have adjusted throughout the season with lineup and substitution changes. I examined and explained how early in the season due to the being young, they did not trust each other and were playing isolation basketball. As the team has gotten more comfortable playing with each other, they are playing a brand of basketball that is a winning formula.

Several listeners called in and said they have noticed a different team as well; the common theme throughout the calls was everyone though the team has been playing with more energy and more focus the last few weeks. I examined what the team needed to do to continue their winning ways as they host the Lake Erie Storm on Saturday afternoon. As signing day as come and gone for most teams across the country, I examined how important it is to fit in not only as an athlete but more importantly as a student as well. I discussed how important coaches, teachers and even tutors are to a young person’s life in adjusting to a new place and culture. I discussed how I was able to fit in my first year as a college student and who helped me transition. I invited listeners to share their stories as well. Most of the listeners said what helped them survive was the orientation weekend, that is where they made valuable friendships that still exist today. The show today was very insightful, and I received great feedback from the everyone who called into the show.

02/07/2020 - 6 Hours

Radio Show

20200207_085612 (1).jpg

I hosted my radio show where I gave a full preview of tomorrow’s basketball games against the Lake Erie Storm. I examined the advantages and disadvantages the Dragons have in each matchup and how I expect each team will try to exploit the storm during the conference showdown. I discussed why these final few games are important for the women and can be huge for the men heading into offseason condition. I discussed the huge weekend coming up for the athletic team at Tiffin, as several teams hit the road this weekend to take on some tough opponents, including men’s wrestling who heads to Indy for the greyhound duals.

I examined how each team will do and discussed how important it is for the men’s and women’s tennis teams to start off fast this weekend at Toledo and Indiana Tech. I previewed the Dragon grand prix and with the track’s lofty ranking, why I fully believe they are just beginning to hit their stride. During the show, I basically guaranteed, the Dragons will bring home another national championship in track and field. As I do every Friday, I ended the show with the segment called “Fun Day Friday”, where I explain the funniest thing, I seen this week or read on the internet. The funniest and could also be the best thing I seen this week was a judge in Painesville, Ohio gives sentences to any individual who has been found guilty of animal abuse a sentence of the same type of abuse they gave the animal.  Listeners were few and far between, probably because they were enjoying the snow, but I did get one caller who said that she liked my story and she approved of the judge’s sentences. She also said the funniest thing she saw this week was a dog sliding down a mountain on his back with his tongue sticking out trying to eat the snow. I could not stop laughing because the picture in my head made it hilarious. It was a great week and onto tomorrow to cover the basketball games against Lake Erie.

02/08/2020 - 5 Hours

Lake Erie Basketball Games

20200208_145310.jpg
20200208_121408.jpg

I covered the men’s and women’s basketball games against the Lake Erie Storm over at the Gillmor Student Center. I arrived, as I normally do on game day a little early to begin setting up the equipment and organizing everything. I made sure the camera angle was steady and level (straight) to get the best possible shots from evert angle so the viewers watching the broadcast can enjoy the game. After the camera was set up, I set up the broadcast, which included the commercials and liners for any timeouts during each game. Russell told me to have all 20 available commercials in the broadcast, especially for a doubleheader, like we had today. Russell told me I could put some commercials in there more than once, so I put four commercials in the broadcast twice to assure ourselves we have enough time to fill the time during breaks.

During the broadcast I oversaw camera operations, and I wanted to do an excellent job, as I always do to ensure the viewers watching have an excellent viewpoint of each play as Russell is calling the game. I believe I did an excellent job at giving the viewers that perspective. I have improved immensely during my time at WTUD getting different shots from everywhere to give access of each play. Along with operating the camera, I also provided the stats to our viewers during each media timeout and after halftime. I have been doing this for the last four games and Russell views it as an opportunity to stay involved with the broadcast and work on my voice. Compared to where I was at the beginning of the year to where I am now, my voice is more confident and sounder, and I believe it will only improve. It was a great day and another learning experience for me. The men’s and women’s teams split their two games against the Storm. The women were victorious by defeating Lake Erie 76-69 and the men were defeated by the Storm 97-63.

02/10/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show

20200207_140611.jpg

I hosted the radio show and I discussed the huge win for the women’s basketball team against the Lake Erie Storm on Saturday as they fight to stay alive for a spot in the conference tournament. The women I examined the changes to the substitution that coach Ivey has made that has propelled the team to start to find their rhythm heading into the final month of the season. I examined how the women will have to come out with even more intensity this week as they head to Hillsdale on Thursday and Findlay on Saturday to take on two tough conference opponents. I examined and dissected how disappointed the men’s effort was on over the weekend was. Although they were shorthanded, the effort was not up to standards and I examine if the message from coach Church is not getting through to the players or if the players have quit on the coaching staff.

On a more positive note to end the show I discussed the great showings over the weekend by the other teams, including the women’s and men’s tennis teams, who picked up the first victory of the season, the men’s wrestling squad, and the continued dominance by the track and field team, who continues to show why they are considered the favorites for the national championship. I also discussed the equestrian team making their season debut at Ohio Wesleyan over the weekend competing against several teams. I discussed how it was a positive show for the squad and several riders, including returning rider, Junior Katie Vogel making her season debut and placing 4th, and Freshman Caroline Frieders qualified for regionals during the competition. Of course, I discussed the biggest news of five women wrestlers earned All-American honors at the WCWA Nationals over the weekend. It was a great showing by the Tiffin athletic teams over the weekend. I examined how this is a huge honor for the program and catapult the program to new heights over the next few years.

02/11/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show

Today, I hosted my radio show where I discussed the academic events that will be occurring on campus over the next couple of weeks, including the musical called “Spring Awakening. I discussed while some may view it as a controversial subject matter, I view it as an opportunity to introduce young children to what life was like back then and what teens are going through in 2020. I discussed the LGBT meeting coming up and how important it is for everyone to be respectful of everyone’s choices, whether we agree with the decision or not. I examine how we must learn from our past or we cannot expect the future to get any better. I also discuss the incredible three individuals who will be coming to speak at the university within the next week.

I discuss how important how every student on campus should listen to the “Cleveland Three” because any individual can be put in that same situation and students must understand how to deal with tough circumstances and come out as better human beings as the “Cleveland Three” did. I examined how if I was a professor, this is one presentation I would assign my class to go to and write a research paper on. I also discussed the art class being offered to the community by the Tiffin Art Guild and how that would make a great educational opportunity for young children and their parents to learn about to use critical thinking skills. To close out my radio show, I discussed the beginning of the spring athletic season as softball and baseball are less than a couple weeks away from hitting the road to begin the season and I discuss how we are only one month away from baseball and softball action getting started here on campus.

02/12/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show

20200128_120434.jpg

Today on my radio show I discussed how important it is for everyone to be patient with unpleasant weather and to not be in a hurry. I discussed how in any situation where a bad storm is approaching, it is imperative to have a plan in place for any emergencies. I discussed my approach to handling inclement weather that affects conditions and I gave our listeners the one tip they should absolutely use in case of a massive storm.

With the overnight breaking news of two Ohio State football players being charged with rape, I discussed and examined the volatility of sexual assault on campuses around the country. I discussed how the statistics are growing is absolutely embarrassing and needs to be addressed by the government. I discussed how the lack of woman in society is embarrassing and how the culture in our society begins in the household. I examine how it is likely the lack of a positive role model in a child’s life, especially a male role model has led to the continued downward trend of assault on college campuses around the country.

On a more positive note to end the show, I discuss the upcoming athletic events during the day. I examined how the swimming and diving squad can bring the GMAC championship trophy back to Tiffin. I discussed while the conference is tough in the sport, I believe the Dragons will bring the championship trophy hack to Tiffin because they are the most complete team in the conference. I also discussed the men’s tennis match at Wayne State coming up today. I examine how the men can come home victorious and the key matchup that will decide which team will come out on top. After the show, I scheduled posts on Facebook for the remainder of the day for music and specific shows that would be playing.

02/13/2020 - 6 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

20200213_090744.jpg

Before my radio show I was able to produce five commercials. It felt good to be able to produce commercials after a week. Russell was to able to fix the audio program and we are now able to record and produce audio again. Commercials I produced included the joint admission program between Tiffin University and Terra State Community College that allows students the opportunity to take courses at both institutions. Another commercial I produced included campus security accepting applications for next fall, and the third commercial I produced was about the discount that Tiffin alumni will receive towards a Ph.D. in Global Leadership and Change. I also produced a commercial about the student success workshops that are offered this semester.

I hosted my radio show and I discussed the opening of MLB camps around the country and baseball camps opening in high school and on college campuses around the country. I discussed what is more exciting, baseball season beginning or warm weather on its way. Being a warm weather fan, I gave my explanation for why the answer is obviously warm weather is on its way, even though I am excited about baseball season starting up. I opened the same question to our listeners and the results were split. 51% were more excited about warm weather and 49% were more excited about baseball season beginning. I had 4 listeners call in and 3 of them were more excited about warm weather because they lived in the state of Ohio their whole lives and Winter wears on them every year. After my radio show, I scheduled posts on Facebook for the rest of the day that includes Ohio music and specific shows that would be playing the rest of the day.

Radio Show/Commercials

20200214_114459.jpg

Before my radio show I was able to produce a couple more commercials. The commercials I produced included the five new members being inducted into the athletics hall of fame in 2020 and Tiffin University being ranked number 3 by the World News and U.S. Report for the online program in criminal justice.

During my radio show I discussed the women’s basketball victory against Hillsdale. I discuss how amazing it is how the team has changed their mindset to be able to win five of their last six games. I examine how important the win against the Chargers is for the women’s team because they are fighting for a spot in the conference tournament.  I examine how I believe, if the Coach Ivey and the basketball team get in the tournament, why I feel they could be a dangerous team for anybody in the conference tournament. I explained the possibility that based on the way the Dragons are playing, they could win the tournament.

I previewed the women’s upcoming match against Gannon, their last home match of the year. I examine if I believe the women can keep the momentum they have going and come out and dominate Gannon. I discuss the weight class match that will be the determining factor for tonight’s match against Gannon. I discussed the impressive showing by the Dragons swimming and Diving team as Tiffin is currently in 2nd place at the GMAC championships behind Findlay after two days of competition. I discussed how impressive the team has been breaking several records and winning several individual championships over the first two days of competition.

To end the show, I hosted a segment called “Friday Fun Day”. The funniest thing I saw this week was a video of a dog sledding down a hill 10 times, while the dog was eating the snow. Due to Valentine’s Day or the recent weather, I did not receive any calls during the segment. I was expecting that this week due to the circumstances. It was another productive week and I am excited to see what next week brings.

Findlay Basketball Game

20200215_123056.jpg
20200215_145244.jpg

I went to the Findlay basketball game with Russell. It was a rivalry game and the women’s basketball team is still fighting for a spot in the conference tournament, so Russell thought it would be better if I come to help him out and provide him some assistance during the broadcast for each game. I have never been to an away basketball game for a broadcast, so Russell thought it would an excellent experience for me to understand the finer points of how broadcasting a basketball game on the road feels like because it is different than any other sports there is more equipment to carry and the games are live on WTUD.

My objectives during the contests were to assist Russell setting the equipment up prior to the game, so he could focus on other areas, such as learning about any potential changes in the lineups, name pronunciations, or potential lineup changes. I also provided updates about the games using the social media platforms, which included posting images on twitter to help provide the listeners who could not make it to the game an idea of what the atmosphere was like. If there was something that Russell might have missed, such as a who was the foul called on or what was the call, it was my job to know, so I could inform him and he could inform the listeners what the call was. After the games were over, I assisted in the tear down of the equipment, it was my job to ensure everything was properly packed up and packed in the right bag. Both games were physical, as expected in a rivalry game. The women suffered a tough loss to Findlay 76-66 severely hurts their standings in the conference. The men’s late season struggles continued as they were defeated by the Oilers 93-75.

Radio Show/Commercials

20200217_113144.jpg

Today, I edited a couple commercials whose dates have expired. For example, I edited a small part of the commercial that I produced involving the student workshops because one of the success workshops occurred yesterday. I produced a couple more commercials as well, including a commercial about Tiffin honoring Black History Month. During my radio show, I examined the weekend action by the Dragons athletic teams. I discussed what a missed opportunity the game against the Oilers for the women’s team as they continue to fight for a spot in the conference tournament. I examined while the men’s season continue to be a disappointment, why Saturday’s game against Findlay could be a turning point for the team for the remainder of the season and heading into next season. I examined the impressive showing by Tiffin’s Swimming and Diving squad at the GMAC championship as several individuals were crowned champions and several school records were broken throughout the tournament.

I discussed the softball team’s first couple of games this season with a 1-3 record in Kentucky with a couple tough losses coming against powerhouses Indianapolis and Rockhurst. I discussed the women’s tennis quiet 6-0 start and how if the team keeps improving throughout the season, they could make a serious run at the conference championship and possibly the NCAA championship. I discuss the upcoming presentation by the “The Cleveland Three” and how their adversity continues to amaze. I discuss if there is one presentation every individual should attend, the presentation by “The Cleveland Three is the presentation to attend because every individual will go through some sort of adversity in their lives and must know how to handle it. After the show, I scheduled posts on Facebook for shows and music that will be playing the rest of the day on the station.

02/18/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

Today, I recorded and produced a commercial about the activities that will be occurring on campus throughout the week. Russell also asked me to edit some of the old commercials and replace them with some of the commercials that were recently produced, so the commercials that were newer would be playing on the station more frequently. Throughout the day, I listened to commercials that I produced during my internship and began critiquing myself. I wanted to have more clarification on how I could improve on my speaking skills after this internship is over. I learned a lot by listening to past commercials, not only did I realize I have improved, but I realized I still have a lot of improvements that I need to make to make before I can call myself a true professional, however I am willing to put in the work.

During my radio show I discussed how the MLB is completely ruining the start of the season by covering up for the Astros and why I feel no matter what happens this season, there will be an asterisk next to it. I discussed the NBA all star game and how the league may have found an advantage over the other leagues when it comes to how to format an all-star game. I examine why the MLB and the NFL should consider scrapping their plans and try to formulate plans like the NBA that will pique a fan’s interest. My last segment of the day included a bit about the Daytona 500 and why Nascar should be receiving more criticism for not protecting its drivers after a scary incident involving Ryan Newman. I examine if there is a double standard between the NFL and Nascar.

Radio Show/Commercials

Before my radio show I edited a few commercials that have expired. One of the commercials I edited was about this week’s student engagement commercial I produced yesterday. I had to edit the events that occurred on Tuesday. I also deleted all commercials and liners that had anything to do with former women’s soccer head coach Melissa Bigg. One other commercial that I deleted was about the Washington Center Internship Program, who was on campus earlier this month.

I produced a new commercial about the Hopp’s Day of Hope charity concert that will happen on March 13 in the Marion Center. After I was finished with commercials, I watched footage of last year’s Lacrosse games to gain some perspective on how the Lacrosse games are broadcasted and what specific terms are used for a game. I have never broadcasted a lacrosse game, so I feel it is important to get a better feel for the proper way to call the game.

During my radio show I discussed how impressive the Baylor basketball team has been this season, but I examine why they may be the number one team, they will not win the national championship. I discuss who I feel are the favorites to win the national championship. With the second half of the NBA season beginning, I examine who is the best team in the league, and why I believe the league is headed towards an ideal finals’ matchup. My final segment for the show was why I feel Rob Manfred has supplanted Roger Goodell as the worst commissioner in professional sports. I discuss why the MLB is in danger of losing fan interest, unless Rob Manfred is removed as commissioner. I scheduled Facebook posts for shows and music that will be playing on the station for the rest of the day.

Radio Show/Basketball Game

I edited a few commercials that I produced earlier in the week. One of the commercials I edited included the student engagement commercial I produced. I had to edit all the activities that took place on Wednesday. I watched last season broadcasts of softball to determine the feel how a softball game is called. I have never called a softball game, so I want to know what the proper way is to call a softball game, especially at Tiffin.

During my radio show I discussed the potential playoff format that could be implemented next season. I examined how this would impact every team’s offseason plans. I also examine how this is great news for teams such as the Cleveland Browns, who continue to struggle to make the playoffs. I give my opinion on whether this is a good thing for the league. A few listeners sent emails saying they do not like the new format because it will devalue the regular season. I preview the men’s basketball game vs Ohio Valley tonight. I examine how the game against Findlay will determine the outcome tonight. I give my player to watch tonight and how it is a player that has not had much impact yet this season but has slowly improved during the year. To end my show, I gave my prediction for the game.

I covered the men’s basketball game against Ohio Valley and as I usually do, I arrived early to begin setting up the camera shot and the broadcast stream. I was the camera operator for the game, and everything went smoothly, and it is amazing how well I have gotten at setting up the broadcast, setting up the camera, and operating the camera. I believe I need to improve more, as there are still small things I can learn however, I am getting better every day. The game was competitive in the first half, but like at Findlay, the Dragons wore down in the second half to lose 86-81.

02/21/2020 - 5 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

Today, as I have been all week prior to my radio show, I edited a few commercials that have expired or events that have taken place this week. For example, today I edited my student engagement commercial in which Thursday’s events have already occurred. I edited and deleted a few commercials that needed to be taken out of the system because the events were a week old. After all the commercials were edited, I watched a baseball broadcast from last season to get a feel for how a game at Tiffin is supposed to be called. Like a broadcast for a Lacrosse game and a softball game, I want to know what the proper way to call a baseball game is. I want to act and sound professional when I broadcast a game.

During my radio show, I recapped the men’s loss vs Ohio Valley last night and I discuss how the loss was the worst of season based on how the defeat occurred. I examine if it might be time for a coaching change to bring some positive energy into the program. I preview the women’s basketball game against Ohio Valley and who I feel must win their individual matchup for the Dragons to defeat the Fighting Scots. I discuss why this is a must win for the women’s team in order to clinch a spot in the conference tournament.

The women’s lacrosse team opens their season on Sunday against Ashland, and I preview their season. I discuss why I feel this could be a special season for the team. I ended my show with a segment called “Friday Fundays”. I tell the story about the funniest story I read this week was about a male who intended to send an email to his wife but sent it to a widow instead. The husband was in Florida describing how hot it was. I received five responses from listeners who loved my story and thought it was hilarious. The best story I heard from a listener was about a miniature pincher attacking a cat for about five minutes, but about an hour later, the cat would get revenge and come from behind the couch and attack the dog. I scheduled posts on Facebook for shows and music that would be playing on the station the rest of the day.

Women's Basketball Game

I was the camera operator for the women’s basketball game against Ohio Valley. It was a special occasion because it was the “Play for Kay” pink game. That meant more than the basketball game as everyone involved in the event has been affected by cancer in one for or another. That also meant I wanted to make sure I was one perfect getting every possible angle I could for the festivities during the special occasion. Due to the special occasion, I arrived a little earlier than normal to make sure everything was working as it should, also if there were any problems, we would have enough time to take care of them before the game and events began.

As I normally do, I set up the camera shot to make sure it was even and I set up the broadcast stream, so Russell could focus on other items he needed to take care. Russell had a big day and emphasized to me to make sure that aside from senior day, this was the one game where getting the perfect shot was key. Aside from being the camera operator, I gave the statistical updates for the game during media timeouts and during halftime. It is a way for me to be a part of the broadcast and continue working on my skills.  The Dragons defeated Ohio Valley to stay alive for a spot in the conference tournament 71-64. After the game was over, we had to tear down the equipment because we must cover the season opener for the women’s lacrosse game tomorrow against Ashland at Frost Kalnow Stadium.

Radio Show/Commercial Editing

I edited a few commercials that were produced last week. I edited and deleted commercials that Russell produced in the past couple of weeks that he asked me to take care of. During my radio show, I discussed the weekend recap that included the women’s lacrosse season opening victory against Ashland and the baseball’s impressive weekend. I also discussed the tennis action, including the men’s second straight victory over Ferris State. I examined why not only it was an impressive weekend for the dragon’s athletics teams, but it was also an important weekend, especially for the women’s basketball teams.

With mid-terms coming up this week, I discussed some stress relievers that could help students improve their work during the test, and I also provided some stress relievers that I use that continue to provide me relief during a stressful time in a week like this one. I opened it up to any listeners to give me their opinion on how they deal with stressful situations. I had five listeners chime in and two listeners Sid they listen to music, two said they prefer to exercise, and one said they meditate to help in a stressful situation. After the show, I scheduled Facebook posts for upcoming shows and music that would be playing on the station later in the day. I watched the broadcast of yesterday’s lacrosse game to analyze what I did right and what I feel I need to improve on before I call the next lacrosse game. As I was watching the broadcast, I realized, there are still improvements that I need to make broadcasting an event. It is amazing how much I can learn by self-critiquing myself.

Commercial Producing/Editing

I recorded and produced the Tiffin student engagement commercial for the week. I also edited the student success workshops commercial that I originally produced a couple of weeks back because one of the workshops took place yesterday, so it was imperative to keep up to date on the commercials. I updated the board on the commercial that would be expiring next. Russell asked me that every time I am using the audio station to keep an eye on the commercial that would be expiring next and update the board if it needs to be updated.

Russell and I talked about the remaining broadcast schedule for the rest of the year, which begins with the Track and Field conference championships this Friday and Saturday. He also informed me that this is a huge event for the university and a huge responsibility and to make sure that no egregious errors occur during the event. He also said it is a huge opportunity to display my talents and what I have learned since I worked with WTUD and that it is important to represent Tiffin University in a positive way.

I posted upcoming songs on Facebook and Twitter that would be playing next on the station, so viewers would know to tune into the station to listen to their favorite songs. I was going to schedule posts for later in the day on Facebook, like I do every day, but Russell wanted to get some audio work taken care of and he was going to reset the system after he was done. He also could tell I was not feeling well so he sent me home early to rest, so I would be 100% for Friday and Saturday.

Radio Show/Commercial Editing

I edited my Tiffin student engagement commercial where I had to cut out the activities that occurred on Tuesday. Russell asked me to edit a few commercials that he produced a few days ago. I assisted Russell in helping set up for the Track and Field conference championships that will be occurring this weekend.

During my show, I discussed the upcoming NFL combine and what players have the most to prove during the combine, and what players can rise from an unknown to become a potential 1st round pick. I discussed the college basketball season and how this year seems like it has more parity than any season within the last decade, and I examined why that might be a detriment to the sport. With the one and done rule ending in a couple of years, I discussed why the era of college basketball as we know is officially over.

With two days remaining until the conference championships, I began to preview the event and why this is an important event, not only for the Track and Field teams to show their dominance, but also for the Tiffin community to show their support for the athletes that have worked hard all year to put a great product out there and continues to represent Tiffin University well. After my show, I scheduled posts on Facebook for shows and music that will be happening later in the day. However, due to the stream occasionally shutting down overnight, I could not schedule any posts after midnight.

Radio Show/Commercial Editing

I edited my Tiffin Student Engagement commercial where I deleted the rest of the week activities. I had to delete the rest of the week early because of the Track and Field conference championships that will be happening the rest of the week and through the weekend. I also deleted another commercial that I produced last week that expired yesterday. I updated the board to remind us the next date that a commercial will expire.

During my show, I previewed the conference championships for the Track and Field and why I feel it is a lock that the Dragons will be crowned the conference champions once again this year. I discuss and examine how the Track and Field program matches up with the best programs in Division II and the likelihood Tiffin can bring a national championship back to the university. I previewed the men’s and women’s basketball games against Kentucky Wesleyan. While the women it seems, the women have more to gain by winning in Saturday’s game, I make a case that the men have more to gain in the game on Saturday.

I previewed the men’s wrestling match at Indianapolis for the NCAA super regionals on Saturday. I examine why the dragons are talented, they may be a little overmatched in a few individual matchups, which will hurt the team in its quest for a national championship. To finish up my final show before spring break, I give some of the best spring break vacation spots for college and high school students in the United States.

Track/Field G - MAC Championships

I covered the first day of the Track and Field conference championships. My responsibility included running the camera and running the broadcasts for Russell when he had some other business to attend to. He also asked me to keep a look out for any events getting ready to start, so he could promote the events during the broadcast. Occasionally, I went to get lineups for each individual event and the results for the event, so Shane and Russell could update them into the system, as well as announce them on the broadcast as well.

When I was operating the camera, I tried to give every event equal publicity because each student-athlete has worked extremely hard to earn this opportunity and I felt it was important to reward their hard work by acknowledging them during the broadcast. Late in the afternoon/evening, Russell had to handle some personal business and he was not going to be back the rest of the evening, so I oversaw the broadcast for the final couple of hours. Everything was going well for the first hour and a half however, I needed to plug something in and when I went down to plug it in to the power strip, I accidentally shut the power off.

I turned the power strip back on and restarted the broadcast and when that did not work, I immediately called Russell for assistance. He was not too thrilled, and neither was I at that time, and I am still not too happy with myself. This was the was worst day on the job for me since I started the internship and I have never been more disgusted with myself, especially considering how important the event was for the university.

03/09/2020 - 4 Hours

Radio Show/Commercials

Today I produced a commercial about the virtual research conference and the university on-campus research conference that will be held next month. Russell and I talked about some changes to the upcoming broadcast schedule and how that impacts show moving forward. We also discussed the expectations for the final seven weeks of the year and how I can improve my productivity to better assist me moving forward. During my show, I discussed the outstanding performances by the baseball team and the wrestling teams. I examined with the way the wrestling seasons ended, the future is extremely bright for the programs moving forward into the 2020-2021 season.

I examined the way the baseball team played in Florida, and the quality of players that is currently on the team, I discuss how the team could not only win the conference but make a deep run in the NCAA tournament. I discussed the tough ending for the women’s basketball, but I discussed with how coach Ivey got the team to play down the stretch, it would not be a surprise to see the team be competitive in the conference next season. I discussed the rough three game stretch for the women’s lacrosse team and while the results do not show it, these games will be a positive for the team moving forward. My final topic for the show was about the NCAA tournament arriving in full force and how I believe this will be the best tournament that has taken place in a long time because the field is wide open and there are a handful of teams that have a chance to win the national championship.

Radio Show/Broadcast Preparation

Today I edited a few commercials whose events occurred last week. I had to delete a commercial about the Hopps Day of Hope concert because they had to cancel. I assisted Russell in getting everything ready to go for tomorrow and this weekend as we have seven athletics events to broadcast this week, starting with lacrosse tomorrow night. We wanted to make sure we had everything ready to go because this weekend is the first home contest for both the baseball and softball teams. While we were getting organized for the broadcast, Russell let me know of what to expect during a broadcast for baseball and softball since I have never been a part of a broadcast at Tiffin for either sport. I also went over each name of each team, so I understand and know how to pronounce everyone’s name properly, that is a key to professionalism when broadcasting a game, something I have learned during my internship.

During my show, I discussed how the coronavirus is affecting athletic events, teams, and individuals around the country. I examined why leagues closing media access could potentially be the new norm and why I believe that is a horrible thing for everyone involved. I discuss playing games without fans may cause a ripple effect for leagues that could change the way fans view the sport. I give my opinion on if I believe this is an over exaggeration or are the leagues taking the necessary steps to protect fans, players and coaches from potentially getting the virus. I ended the show on a lighter note, as spring has arrived, I gave my five favorite things to do in the spring.

Coronavirus Adjustments

This was supposed to be the week that I begin broadcasting softball and baseball games. This was also the week where I added a few more segments into my radio show. However, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in the United States and around the World, my plans and excitement for the spring was put on an indefinite halt, and in the of broadcasting any spring sports, a cancellation.

Due to the conference cancelling all spring sports and President Schumacher closing the campus down until March 29, which includes the radio station, I have been unable to host my radio show for the past week or for the foreseeable future. However, that does not mean that I haven’t been working on my broadcasting skills.

Since the closing of the campus, I have used my computer to access old Tiffin University games and used my recorder that I ordered and have been calling games. Within this time, I have also written out commercials that have popped in my head and recorded them as well. I want to have a much practice using my voice as possible, but more importantly, I want to enough material to be able to give to prospective employees when I apply for jobs. I hope to have material that impresses them, which is why during this time I continue to work on my craft.

I understand the reasoning behind the shutdown, and I wish I could still go to the station and host my radio show, but the safety of lives is more important. I have still been able to get some valuable work done on my own and will continue to do so until the shutdown is lifted, or any new update occurs from President Schumacher regarding the future. I have faced adversity my entire life and this is just another bump in the road for me as I continue along my journey as I hope to be able to earn my degree from Tiffin University and become a sports broadcaster.

03/15/20-03/21/2020 - 20 Hours

Broadcasts/Adversity

For the second week in a row, I have been focused on broadcasting previous Tiffin games from this past year and previous years before that. What I have been doing is what Russell has taught me throughout the year was gather as much information as possible about each team, player and their statistics for that season, while also learning how to pronounce their name correctly. I gathered a few hours of research before I would broadcast a game, it took a lot of work but I believe it will pay off in the short-term and long-term because I can feel my broadcasting abilities getting better each time I call a game.

I have also come up with some creative commercial ideas that have been very inspiring to me and I feel will only enhance my chances of landing a job with a company after my time here at Tiffin. I use my recorder and my computer to produce the commercial, the only downside is the quality of the sound or editing is not as good as it is if I were to produce a commercial in the station.

These are some unique times and I have had to get creative to continue working on my craft, and I feel this time that I have had has helped me realize that I can accomplish my goals in adverse times because during my career, there will be several times where adversity will come and I will need to adjust. This will only benefit my career and give me an advantage over other prospective applicants.

Lacrosse Broadcasts/Commercials

Throughout the week, I have used my recorder and my laptop to work on my broadcasting skills to call spring sporting events from previous years. This week, I have focused on calling women’s lacrosse. I have called games from as far back as 2013. Before I broadcasted the games, I listened to Russell call the games, so I would understand the name pronunciations and then I did some research on every player and coaches’ statistics for their year and career.

After all the work was completed, I called each game. I felt it was important to continue to work and improve on my skills, even though the crisis throughout the world has prevented me from calling live game during the spring semester. I feel I am improving everyday and by doing research on past teams that will open doors to more job opportunities in the future because part of the daily responsibilities in the broadcasting and media field is research.

I worked on producing commercials that I had produced throughout the year. I felt it was an opportunity to work on my voice and project, as Russell emphasizes. It is imperative that during this time I continue to provide as many samples as possible as I head out into the workforce. I also used my imagination and created one commercial. The commercial I created was about how I was a rock star and my show was coming to Tiffin University for the first time. Due to social distancing, I had to use two voices in the voices in the commercial. It was fun to create a commercial like that because it was a unique experience for me and something I have never done before.

Baseball Broadcasts

This week I focused on calling old baseball games from the years 2015-2018. Due to the Coronavirus, I was unable to broadcast any live baseball game here at Tiffin University, so I have decided to spend my last few weeks of the year broadcasting each individual spring sport from previous years. Last week, I spent all week calling the lacrosse games and this week, I turned my attention to the baseball team. As was the case with lacrosse, before I called the games I listened to the games and took notes of how the games were called to learn tendencies and to learn everyone’s names.

If there was one thing, I have learned during my time at the radio station, it is that mispronouncing a name is a sin in the world of broadcasting and is one of the few ways to lose your job. I want to sound professional and want to represent myself, my family, and the organization I am working for with class, so I will do all the research that is necessary to make that happen.

I also researched player’s and coach’s career and season statistics to understand their weaknesses and strengths during the game. Overall the research took about two hours; however, I enjoyed it because I was able to learn about everyone individually and it gave me a chance to work on my skills that will come in handy when I apply for jobs in the future. When I began to broadcast the games, I realized how well our teams played and the chemistry was incredible.

One thing I noticed while calling the games as each year went by is as the players were older and more mature, the better the leadership was for the team. It was almost like the players were coaching the team. In my opinion, that is when a great team is formed. I am disappointed I did not get a chance to call any games this season. Another thing I noticed is the pace of the game was quicker as each season went by. I believe part of the reason for this is the players understood the nuisances of the game better and were better equipped to handle adversity that came upon them. Throughout the week I enjoyed calling the baseball games from previous seasons and I feel the 2020 team had a chance to be one of the best teams at Tiffin and be able to win the conference championship, as well as make a run in the NCAA tournament.

04/05/2020-04/11/2020 - 27 Hours

Softball Broadcasts

Within this week, much like the last couple of weeks I called softball games from the years 2015-2018 because I was unable to broadcast any live action due to the coronavirus that forced all spring sports to be cancelled. Like with lacrosse and baseball the last two weeks, I began the process by doing research on each individual team and player. I looked the statistics for the season and the coach’s record for their career and against the opponent. Like the previous two weeks, I watched the broadcasts and wrote notes down, so I knew the pronunciations of everyone’s name. I want to act and sound professional when I send in examples for potential employment. The process for each individual game took about an hour to an hour and a half.

When I started call the games, I began with the 2015 season. One thing stuck out to me. The team was kind of uncompetitive and unorganized at times and it seemed like there was miscommunication on the field between the players and the manager. I believe part of the reason for the issue was the team had a lot of young players on the team, so the team did not understand what it meant to play at this level. I enjoyed calling these games because it gave me a challenge, and this will assist me because eventually I call games like this.

However, I noticed as I called the other games, the teams began to improve in all facets of the game. The cohesiveness and the chemistry between the team and the manager was a lot better and the play and the results reflected that. Last year was the best game I called from a chemistry standpoint, cohesiveness, and talent standpoint. Throughout most of the season, the team had confidence they were going to win every game, and while they did not win every game or the conference, they were competitive. It is a shame that the players did not get to play this year because the team returned a lot of players and could have had a successful season.

Improving My Broadcasting Skills

I have learned a lot during this year working under Russell at WTUD and as I was learning from Russell every day, one of the most important messages he continued to imply was I needed to self-critique myself. The reasoning to self-critique myself was so I could learn from my mistakes and learn from them, and that is what I did this week. During my time working at the radio station, I was able to broadcast games for the volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, wrestling, and basketball teams.

This week I watched every single broadcast I called this year and I took three pages of notes for every single broadcast of positives and negatives for each broadcast. Personally, I was surprised at how many things I feel that need to be improving before I am ready for a major market. I was embarrassed at my performances. After I took notes, I rebroadcasted those games to improve my performance.

Two broadcasts I specifically paid close attention to were the lacrosse game against Ashland and the men’s basketball game against Fanshawe. Those broadcasts were my worse performances of the year and I was absolutely disgusted with myself. As I watched the games again, it was worse than I thought, and I took five pages of notes. I called those games twice this week because I was so disgusted with myself.  I focused on those games Sunday and Monday.

As embarrassed as I was with my performance, I am glad I am glad I can critique myself now and improve my performance before it is too late. I felt this past week when I called the games, I was more comfortable, and my performance was more improved. However, I will not know how much improved the performance truly was until I watch my performance again in a couple of weeks.

This week was about preparing me for the future and I felt I took a significant step in improving my craft within the last few weeks and as I continue on my journey, I hope to continue to take what I have learned while working with Russell and build upon that. I am grateful for everything Russell has done for me this year. The relationships I have built while interning at WTUD and Tiffin University will last a lifetime.

Final Week

During the final week of my internship, I compiled all my work that I have accomplished during my internship and throughout the year. I put the commercials I have produced, the athletic events I have broadcasted, and the podcasts I have recorded, and I put them on a hard drive to send to prospective employers for prospective job interviews for this summer and after I receive my masters degree from Tiffin. I have also been gathering and putting together final information for ways I can improve on my performance moving forward.

I have been taking notes and communicating with other professionals in the industry on certain aspects of the career that are most important for long-term success in the broadcasting industry. I want to build a strong network of individuals who have been in my shoes and knows what it takes to be successful in the industry. I have been going over all my notes that I have taken during my time at WTUD and I am reminded that while I have improved immensely during my time working under Russell, I believe my potential is limitless and I am willing to work harder than anyone to realize my dream of becoming a broadcaster at one of the major media markets (ESPN, Fox, CBS, NBC).

I cannot thank Russell enough for his hospitality and his willingness to give me this great opportunity. I enjoyed my time working for the radio station at WTUD and I learned a great deal about dedication, hard work, and passion from him. The lessons I learned from Russell; I will take with me as I continue path to becoming a successful sports broadcaster. I am blessed to have chosen a university that has allowed me the opportunity to live out my passion and desire to become a broadcaster. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me. I am anxious, excited, nervous, and enthusiastic about what it is in store for me. I am confident in my abilities that I know whoever takes a chance on me will not regret it. Go Dragons!
