First Podcast Show - Sept 24

20191213_171412.jpg

I recorded my first sports podcast show that will air on the station in future shows. The podcast lasted about 40 minutes and covered topics that included the MLB playoffs, the kickoff of the NBA season, the NFL season and who I believe are the biggest surprises and dissapointments of the year. I make an argument for why I believe Ohio State should be ranked as the number one team in the country, as well as the upcoming matchup with Northwestern.

As important as on the field topics are, I discuss the China dispute could affect the NBA financially and what solutions might be possible for commissioner Silver to avoid any further damage. I also discuss my opinion on whether or not the new netting policy has affected the fan experience in baseball. I also discuss whether Antonio Brown deserves another shot in the league.

Tiffin Soccer Game - Oct 25

wsoc-9-27.jpg

I was the broadcaster for the women’s soccer match against Ursuline today. The Tiffin soccer team was defeated 3-0 as they could not get anything going offensively. It was a great experience for me, as Russell allowed me to set up the equipment, so I am better equipped for the pre-game set up. I also learned more lessons on how to use my voice to get viewers more excited about the contest even if the score is not in our favor. Russell is giving me tips on how to become a better broadcaster each time I broadcast an event. I am learning valuable lessons every single day.

Broadcasting - Oct 26

puuc80smsn47f5bw.jpg

I was the broadcaster for the women’s soccer match against Lake Erie today. The team had their senior day where five seniors were recognized for their accomplishments. The team came out with some energy however it was not enough as the Dragons fell to the Storm 1-0. It has been a tough season for coach Melissa Bigg and the team. Hopefully the team will be able to rebound on November 5th when they host the Findlay Oilers at noon at Paradiso Soccer Field. It has been an experience for me calling soccer. I have never had the opportunity to call soccer, but one that I appreciate and will learn from.

Podcast - Oct 30

20191216_082027.jpg

I recorded my podcast today that will air on the station in the next day or two. The podcast was 45 minutes long. Throughout the podcast, I discuss how the Houston Astros have been able to overcome a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 series lead in the World Series. I discuss how the Chiefs are in trouble, even when Mahomes comes back, I am a Chiefs fan. I give my opinion on who I feel the best team in college football is. I discuss the first week action of the NBA, and I also discuss the latest results for the Tiffin athletic teams, while previewing upcoming events. It will be a busy week in the sports world, and I cannot wait to see how it unfolds. Go Dragons!

Soccer Broadcast - Nov 5

wsoc-11-5.jpg

Today I announced the women's soccer match against Findlay. It was the final regular season home game for the dragons. It was another learning experience for me as I continue on my path as a broadcaster. The hardest part for me is the language of each sport because I have had to watch film on how each sport is called and translate that into my skills as a broadcaster. I am learning the nuisances of calling every sport and while it is a challenge, and I am making mistakes, I am learning a lot of valuable lessons along the way. I believe I have improved as an announcer, however I realize I have so much more to learn before I truly feel comfortable calling myself a expert.

Tournament Broadcast - Nov 9

sy1100.jpg

Today I was the announcer for the conference quarterfinal match-up between the Tiffin Dragons and Walsh. Due to the football game, I was in charge of the entire operation. It was an honor that Russell trusted me enough to be able to handle it on my own. However, I felt an extreme responsibility to not let him down and to represent the university in a positive manner. I wanted to show everyone how much I have learned over the past couple of months. I believe I did a good job. The stream did froze during the game, so I had to shut the computer down and readjust the broadcast to get the video working again. I was frustrated because I felt I let everyone down. However Russell assured me that these things can happen and you just have to learn on the job. I learned a lot about myself. I learned about the pressure of working video and audio by myself and I believe the next time, I will be better at handling a tough situation during a game.

Wright St. Lake Basketball -  Nov 14

I was the announcer for the men's and the women's basketball games against Wright St. Lake. It was my first time announcing a basketball game, so it was a new experience and one that I clearly will from. I made plenty of mistakes that I believe were partly due to the nerves going as I was trying to get in a flow. I learned there is more to a basketball game than there is to a football or a soccer game because with a basketball game, the announcer has to control the radio operations as well as the video operations. It was a new learning experience for me and one that I will improve on as I continue to announce basketball this upcoming season for both the men and women.

Tiffin Volleyball Broadcast - Nov 16

vb-11-16.jpg

I was the announcer for the final regular season game for the volleyball team. Russell had to stream the football game in Findlay, so I had to make sure everything was on point, especially since it was the senior's final regular season game at Tiffin. I wanted to arrive a little early to make sure everything was perfect for the match. Once I knew the set up was good, I did a little more research on Malone to get the stats and the names right. My goal was to make sure this was my best job to date. I wanted to get some more close-up shots of all the seniors, since I figured their friends and families would be watching the broadcast. Ultimately, I believe I did an excellent job balancing the audio and the video, while providing commentary for the viewers. I believe I have greatly improved since the start of the season.

Tiffin Basketball Broadcast - Nov 20

Since it was an out of conference game, Russell let me do the announcing for the game. It was an interesting game to call because the opponent was from Canada and most of the players were from Europe, so the pronunciations were really interesting and some of the hardest that I have dealt with to date. I had to ask the coaching staff about the pronunciations of several names and practice saying the quite a bit before the game began. I believe I did alright with the names. I improved at the broadcast this time around compared to my first time calling a basketball game. However, I still made errors that I need to correct and with practice, I believe I will continue to get better at announcing for all athletic events.

Wrestling Broadcast - Nov 21

i6k4sfaawwakz7s4.jpg

Russell traveled with the football team to Kutztown Pennsylvania, so I had to broadcast the women's wrestling match against Adrian. Wrestling had a different feel to it and I did not know what to expect because I have never covered wrestling, so I was unfamiliar with the rules. As always, my first priority was to set the camera up to make sure the shot was level. After I had the picture right, I set up the broadcast to make sure viewers could watch the stream. I wanted to make sure I had all of the rules and the pronunciations of each wrestler correct. I struggled in the begging because of my unfamiliarity with wrestling however as the event continued, I believe I started to understand the rules a little better. If I am announcing another wrestling match, I believe I will be better, but I will still make mistakes because I still do not understand the rules of wrestling completely. I believe with more practice, I will get better each time and eventually feel confident to know what I am talking about in the sport of wrestling.

Academic Recording - Dec 12

20191216_103415.jpg

Russell had some personal business to attend to and Dr. McGilvray needed someone to record for her marketing class, as they were presenting their startup businesses to the class for their exam. I had to record each individual presentation as a recruiting tool for future classes in Franks Hall and the best presentations had to present a larger audience, as well as judges in the Chisholm auditorium. The experience was great for me because It gave me another opportunity to prove myself worthy enough to Russell that I can handle more responsibilities and it will hopefully be a big relief off of Russell’s shoulders in case he has to take a day off for personal reasons and an event needs to be recorded.

Tiffin Dragon Open - Jan 18

20200118_110015.jpg

Today we had the Tiffin Dragon Open and I arrived about two hours early so we could set up the equipment for the event. It was my first time broadcasting a track meet, so I was a little unsure of what to expect as far as how the operations would go. Once the set up was complete, I was informed about 20 minutes before the event that I would be calling the event. The notification threw me off course however, I quickly gathered myself and got the necessary information to get prepared. Once the event started, it was a little slow at first, but the event quickly picked up. I learned at a track meet that you must watch the entire field because there are multiple events going on at several different times and it is important to give each individual sport and athlete the proper recognition they deserve. Calling a track meet is like calling other athletic events, except the attention span of a broadcaster for Track must be on point. It was a great learning experience for me because there were items that I realized I need to fix to become a better broadcaster however, I would like to call another meet to improve on those abilities. The event went well for both the men’s and women’s track teams as several athletes earned high marks and qualifying bids. Once again, the Dragons track teams showed why they might be the favorites to win the national championship again this year.

Women's Wrestling Broadcast - Feb 14

20200214_175033.jpg

Russell had to take care of some other duties, so I was the broadcaster for the women’s wrestling match against Gannon. As I normally do when I set up for a broadcast, I arrive early to make sure everything is working in perfect form the match. The first order of business was to set up the camera and make sure the shot is even and steady to get the best angle for the viewers watching the broadcast, especially the family members who are not able to make it to the meet to watch in person. After the camera was ready to go, I set up the broadcast, which included the commercials, the teams and the scoreboard for the shot.

My next order of business was to check the audio and the video. I needed to see if the microphones were working perfectly so the viewers could hear and understand what I was saying. Once I made sure the broadcast was set up and working perfectly, I received a sheet of the rosters and the matches that would be occurring during the contest and I highlighted each one and made sure I was able to announce each wrestlers name properly, as well as any additional information that would be needed during their match. I believe the evening went very smoothly and I do not believe there were any issues with the broadcast or the announcing. The Dragons started off slow to begin the match, but eventually wore down Gannon to dominate as expected. The team will look to continue the great season they have been having next week in Franklin Springs, Georgia at the Emmanuel Duals Open.

Women's Lacrosse Opener - Feb 23

Today I broadcasted the women’s lacrosse season opening game against the Ashland Eagles. We went to the stadium around two hours before the game started to set the equipment. We wanted to make sure that no renovations were taking place in the press box at the stadium since we have not been to the stadium since football season ended. Luckily there were no significant changes to the press box and the set up of the equipment went very smoothly.

Considering it was my first time broadcasting a game, I was a little apprehensive about how I would handle it, however Russell had faith that I could do it, so I had faith as well. At the start of the broadcast I was a little rusty, but as the game wore on, I began to get back in the flow of the game and settle in.  It was a little difficult to see the numbers from the press box due to the uniforms the players are wearing, which makes it harder to call a lacrosse game.

Giving statistical information during halftime was fairly easy for me because I have been doing that throughout the basketball season and I am grateful to Russell to help me evolve for when I eventually had to call a game again, I would not be completely out of touch with what I was doing. I believe I did well throughout the day, and I believe as I continue to call more games this spring; I will get even better as the year will end for the athletic season. The Dragons defeated the Eagles 12-7 to begin the season 1-0. After the game we had to tear down the equipment from the press box and pack it up and get ready for the Track and Field conference championships, as well as the basketball games against Kentucky Wesleyan next weekend.

Basketball vs Kentucky Wesleyan - Feb 29

Russell had to cover the Track and Field conference championships all day, so it was my responsibility to cover the men’s and women’s basketball games against Kentucky Wesleyan. It was the last game for each team, so therefore it was senior day. It was my first basketball game going solo, so I was a little anxious and excited at the same time to get the opportunity to cover the two games. As I have for the entire year, I showed up early to set up the camera to make sure the camera shot was even and steady. Since this was senior day, I wanted the picture to be as clear as possible, so I adjusted the image on the camera to get the best possible view.

After the camera was set up, I set up the broadcast for the online stream and once I set up the stream, I adjusted the levels for the noise levels to make sure they were not too hot or too low. Due to conference regulations, I had to set up a separate stream for the men’s game. There was a slight issue with the men’s game. During the broadcast, the camera froze, so I had to shut the broadcast down and restart another broadcast to get the stream working again. Everything went smoothly during the two broadcasts, besides that minor issue.

Prior to the game, I recorded an academic event in the Marion Center from 9-11 am that was about Tiffin new Ph. D program Global Leadership and Change. They were discussing about the upcoming events and expectations for the program, as well as each individual professor gave a presentation about how their course will be taught in the program and what they expect from the students. A couple professors for the program includes Dr. Schumacher and Dr. Haan.

Podcast - March 29

Today, I recorded a podcast where I discussed the impact the virus is having on sports throughout the United States and the international communities. I discussed whether I believe the NBA and the MLB seasons are in jeopardy and if they do begin, who I believe are the favorites to win the championships in their respective leagues. I discussed the impact the virus is having on the NFL and why I felt the league should have listened to the general managers and pushed the date of the draft back. I examined if Kirk Herbstreit is correct in assuming that the college football and the NFL football seasons are in danger due to the virus, and if that is correct I talk about why that would be more damaging to the U.S. economy than any other business in the country.

I discussed the upcoming NFL draft and who I feel will be the best landing spots for the Ohio State prospects and who are the most underrated prospects in the draft, as well as the most overrated prospects in the draft. As a Chiefs fan, I gave five players who I believe can help the team defend the championship next year and why I believe the draft is important for the Chiefs next month.

My final topic for the podcast included the incredible recruiting that is occurring by Ohio State and I discuss why Coach Day is a superior coach and recruiter than coach Meyer. I also examine why Ohio State has a chance to win the Big Ten for many years to come, and several national championships. I also end the show by saying I feel coach Day has a chance to be better than coach Hayes if he sticks around long enough. The podcast will hopefully air on the station soon.

Podcast - April 5

I recorded a podcast where I discussed the ongoing tragedy of the Coronavirus and the impact it is having on the sports community. I discuss if I believe the NBA will resume their season and if they do not, the impact it will have on the legacies for players such as Lebron James and James Harden. I examine the likelihood the NFL and college football season will take place in 2020 and the impact that will have on players like Aaron Rodgers and Phillip Rivers. I examine the financial impact it will have on each individual league and whether the leagues can survive a year without major profits.

For the positive side of the sports news, I discuss the continued success that Ohio State football is having on the recruiting trail and whether I believe that will lead to a national championship within the next year or two. I consider if coach Day is already better than coach Meyer and why I feel that coach Meyer’s legacy at Ohio State has been enhanced by the early success that coach Day is having.

I delve into the Chiefs offseason so far and how I feel they have done addressing the needs of their team and where I believe they still need to make improvements through the draft or free agency. I consider how other teams in the league have improved and on paper, I ponder if the Chiefs should be considered the favorites to win the Super Bowl heading into the season, even though they are the defending champions. This podcast will hopefully play on the station in the future.

Podcast - April 12

During my podcast today, I discussed the upcoming NFL draft that occurs on April 23rd and whether the league made the right decision not to postpone the draft. I also examine the decision to have a virtual draft and the effect that will have on the teams. I explain who I believe has an advantage using a virtual draft and my reasoning behind those thoughts. As a Chiefs fan, they recently signed cb Bashaud Breeland to return as a starter. I discuss why this is a huge deal and why I believe this move and the other moves they made during the offseason may have put them as the favorites to repeat as Super Bowl Champions.

I explore the possibility of the MLB playing the season in Arizona and without fans and how devastating that would be to a league that many in the country feel is behind the NBA, NFL and CFB in popularity. I delve into the financial ramifications the league would have if they decided to go that route. I offer suggestions that would make better sense for the league that would give the league some financial flexibility, while also keeping everyone safe during these difficult times in our society.

In correlation with the MLB, I discuss the dilemma the NBA is currently under and examine ways in which they could restart the season and keep everyone safe. I also discuss why the Chicago Bulls made a great decision to hire Arturas Karnisovas’ as the head of basketball operations. I explore why I feel this is the start of a new beginning for the organization and I am a Bulls fan, so you might hear a little bias in there.

I hope to have this podcast playing on the station soon. So, stay tuned!

Podcast - April 19

For my final podcast of the year, I discuss the NFL draft and give my final predictions on who will be the player that suffers the Brady Quinn syndrome, in other words who fill fall that experts did not expect to fall. I give my opinion on whether this virtual draft will be a success and if it is a success will some form of it be implemented in future drafts. I examine which team needs to have a great draft for immediate and future success. I explore whether the lack of off-season training activities will hurt these rookies and teams and teams like the Ravens, Saints, and Chiefs, who return most of their players from last season have an advantage due to the continuity factor.

I give my prediction if the MLB will have a season this year and if they do have a season this year, who is the favorite to win the World Series. I give my Predictions for the World Series matchup and a World Series winner. I examine whether the NBA will be able to begin their season, especially the setback that China has had when it came to trying return to action. If the league were able to return, I explore the teams that are the favorites to win the championship.

I explore the possibility that if Lebron James wins the championship this year with the Lakers, does that cement him as the second-best player in NBA history? I question if a championship is brought back to the Lakers organization led by Lebron, where would he be on the list of all-time Laker greats? The last topic for the podcast was if Lebron won a championship this year, would he retire, or would he continue to play to surpass Michael Jordan’s championship total of 6?

I hope this podcast will play on the station soon.
