Self Evaluation

1. What strengths did you bring to your mentorship/internship?

I believe I am a hard working individual who was always punctual and willing to take initiative, as well as willing to come with up with new music and commercials for the radio show. I also assisted with coming up with creative ideas on the broadcast stream during the athletic events. I was an employee who was willing to assist and work more hours. For example, during the track and field conference championships I was willing to work all day, even though my supervisor said I could have a few hours off.

2. What were your major weaknesses? What personal qualities qualities could you have improved during your experience?

During my internship, there were times where errors that I needed to make a quick decision to solve a problem. I did not know what to do and I froze, so I called Russell for help to solve the problem. During broadcasts I would often mispronounce a player's name, especially from the opposing team, which indicates I need to do more preparation in my pregame so I can sound more professional during the broadcast. During my radio show, there were times when I was relaying a message and my voice is quiet. I need to be more confident in my message as I am relaying to the listeners.

3. Do you feel adequately satisfied the duties expected of you by the sponsoring organization? Why or why not?

I believe I have done a good job based on the feedback I received from coaches, players, fans, and Russell. When I was asked to perform a task, I completed the task in a timely and professional manner. I believe some of my ideas that I suggested for the organization will help the organization continue to grow and improve for the future. I feel that I made a good impression on everyone I worked with throughout this semester due to my professionalism and courtesy each day.

4. Do you feel adequately satisfied the time requirements (150/200) clock hours of the internship?

I feel I have met the hour requirements for the internship. In fact, if it was not for the Coronavirus, I would have logged about 400 hours for the internship. Based on the broadcast hours and the number of hours that I work at the office everyday; I believe my requirement was met within the first two months of the spring semester. While the second half of the spring semester was not nearly as active due to the social distancing rules and the stay-at home order, I was still able to log some hours on my own. You can read about those experiences on my other pages in this profile. However, I would have liked to gain those extra hours to provide some more experience in broadcasting and in other areas of the radio industry.

5. What helpful suggestions would you make to future interns/mentees in your position?

I would advise future students to always be punctual and take notes when your supervisor is giving out instructions. I would also advise future interns to show initiative during your semester. Before you arrive to your shift, write down what the tasks are for the day and asses how you will go about completely those tasks. The last thing I would advise interns is to always communicate with your supervisor because keeping an open line of communication will create a more positive work environment.

6. What did you gain from your experience? How will this experience help you when you leave Tiffin University?

I have learned many things that I will take with me as I continue on my journey to become a radio broadcaster. The lessons that I have learned from this internship include producing commercials, how to set up a camera, how to set up a broadcast stream, but the most important thing I learned during my internship is communication skills. Communication skills can come from interviewing a coach or a player to communicating with the listeners on my radio show. How I interact with people is the most important characteristic I learned during my time. These experiences will help me as I prepare for a career in the radio industry because after this internship, I know I can do this job and I have what it takes to become a successful broadcaster based on the characteristics it takes. I have the passion, motivation, and the work ethic to thrive in the industry.

10. What overall grade do you feel you earned through your mentorship/internship experience? Justify your response.

I feel I deserve a C for my internship experience because although I think I feel the performance was good, the performance during the internship was not great. One quality that should be known about me is that I am extremely tough on myself and expect nothing less than perfection. Anything less than perfection is unacceptable in my opinion and this was something that did not happen during the experience. During our discussions, including our goals discussion, Russell told me perfection is not possible and I am being too harsh on myself, but I feel that is the only way I can become successful in my career.
